HdMI -->DVI question

I just got a PS3. I'm going to hook it up to my display's DVI port. My friend has an HDMI -->DVI adaptor he is willing to give me. Are there any advantages in picture quality in using an HDMI -->DVI cable instead of the adaptor?

Thanks!

Oh, the adapter is from monoprice.

FWIW, my PS3 is connected via an HDMI->DVI cable and PQ looks amazing!

The signal is digital, so there would be no loss.

That being said, there are plenty of people that would choose to debate this.

I use HDMI to DVI and it's great. I never had any problems. Blu-ray plays in 1080p.

Is it possible to use an HDMI-DVI cable and still use the white/red audio cables or do you have to use the optical port for the audio?

The PS3 will let you pick what audio output you want to use so yes it is possible.

Has anyone ever had a problem using an HDMI cable with a PS3? My PS3 losses a lot of picture quality when I use HDMI, but component cables look awesome. When I use the same HDMI cable on my Toshiba upconvert DVD player, the quality is amazing.
