Are dvdtalkers buying films just for the PQ/AQ?

A lot of people on another HD enthusiasts site are buying utter crap just because it looks good.
Stuff like Crank, Serenity, AvP, Flyboys, The Guardian, Ultraviolet, Underworld Evolution, etc.

Why?!

Believe it or not, some people might actually like those movies.
Who is anyone to criticize others buying habits?

Bite your tongue! Serenity is one of the best Sci-Fi movies of the decade.

I told myself the HD titles I buy would have to be both greatly improved PQ and a movie I'll watch over and over. The fourth title I bought was Serenity.

It's a fair question, I just don't think you should've listed out any titles.

Nope, everyone on DVDTalk takes a solemn oath to only buy good movies that they love and to watch them and never let them sit on their shelves in the shrinkwrap

FWIW, most of my movies aren't on any Top 10 lists. I'm buying the same movies I bought on SD DVD and even LD and VHS.

I'm not buying movies because they're pretty. I'm buying them because i like them.

Serenity is not by any reasonable definition utter crap.

So far all i've gotten for my Blue Ray are The Descent, Full Metal Jacket, Crank and Goodfellas

The Descent i got just because i wanted the movie anyways do i'll spend a few more bucks for the BD, heck i remember spending $30-35 for DVD's ar first.

Full Metal Jacket because I'm a huge Kubrick fan and the chance to finally see it in widescreen

Crank just becasue it was fun and i heard the quality was really good

Goodfellas because its one of my fav.

I also have talladega nights cause it came with the ps3

but i'm not going out to buy Flyboys just because it may look good, there has to be something else there

I generally buy on rewatchability. If it's a movie that I'm willing to watch 3-4 times every year, then I'll buy it. Otherwise, no.

Who the hell has time to watch the same movie 3-4 times a year?

If that were the criteria, I don't think I'd own ANY.

After renting Crank, I can't fathom why it would be worth owning.

Thank you for saying that. (Yes, I'll admit to being a Firefly fan...)

A question for the O.P: What titles would you consider worth buying if they came out in high def?

I use to watch Serenity once a week.

Right now I seem to have a hard-on for "Days of Thunder" in HD. I've been watching it daily via my DVR.

Must be Hans Zimmer's score

I'm so happy The Game will get a proper widescreen release in the US. I'm not bothered by the lack of features. I just want great video quality for this one. I'm ready to dump the crappy non-anamorphic disc. I still may import the Region 2 disc for extras.

My lord, I have never seen so many repeat threads in one sub-forum.

Namja, would you kindly combine the two threads on the same subject? Thanks.

If you can link me to one of the existing threads, I'll merge it. I tried searching for "picture quality" and "just quality" but didn't get any relevant matches.
