Yeah it just makes it worse when these studios dont put out something that makes sense like Hamlet and Braveheart from your list. I can be patient with everything else, but when they completely ignore an obvious HDM release, I just have to shake my head.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall at the studio/video department head meeting of the December HD-DVD releases and hear why 'Braveheart' was not released as such.

I like to think Paramount/Dreamworks plan on attacking HD-DVD next year with titles like Braveheart, Gladiator, The Godfather, Indiana Jones, American Beauty, Apocalypse Now, and others. Whomever paid them off has to be putting pressure on them.

from what I've read regarding The Godfather trilogy is Zoetrope is doing a massive 4K restoration of the films (that of course puts shivers down my spine since they screwed up "Bram Stoker's Dracula") - we shall see

I did specify "Extended Editions" in my post, but I'll elaborate: if the Theatrical Editions are released on HD DVD or BD, I won't buy them. With apologies to Peter Jackson, I have no interest in watching the Theatrical Editions again, having seen the Extended Editions.

The only other stipulation is that the home video distribution rights must be held by a studio that currently supports Blu-ray (sorry, no Jaws, Titanic, Indiana Jones, etc). The Indiana Jones films were directed by Speilberg, and his films were specifically excluded from the Paramount/Dreamworks deal with HD DVD, therefore those titles should be fair game, so here is my list:

5. (tie) Clerks/Chasing Amy (just because then I'd have all six Kevin Smith "Jersey Saga" flicks in high def...I've already pre-ordered Dogma)

4. Indiana Jones series boxset (how about this fall with all four?)

3. Alien Quadrilogy set (even just a port of the previously released set, I don't care if you just keep them in standard def, come on Fox, stop losing the extras!)

2. Lord Of The Rings trilogy boxset (with choice of theatrical or extended editions through seemless branching)

1. Star Wars saga boxset (all six now please!)

Pesonally I want to upgrade my Speilberg collection to BD. I doubt many would object if they start with Jaws, ET, and Saving Private Ryan.

I know Spielberg is trying to get American audiences aware of Tintin for the movies he and Peter Jackson are directing, so as a result, a release of the animated programs would be helpful towards that aim.

The only problem is the niche market (The subset of HD owners and Tintin fans is probably not too large), and the fact that the shows will be too similar in content to the films themselves. Hopefully Spielberg can tap into the former, and marketing can take care of the latter. They might want to stagger the release after the movie itself comes out (if they even have the rights, and if they decide to release them at all).

There are no news on the anime versions, The two classic live Tintins however arrive on February 21 in France (post# 237 in the "Foreign Cinema in Blu" thread). Perhaps the series won't be too far behind. They are very big in Europe.
