Recommended HD-DVD / BLU-Ray versions over the orginal DVD release

Has anyone began to make a list of which HD-DVD and BLU-RAY movies are a vast improvement over the regular DVD version? Personally, I'd like a thread I could reference when I begin purchasing a few. It would make my life so much easier and would also help me narrow down the titles for future sales, etc., and I wouldn't have to worry about it being a blind-buy.

If a thread has been started, then I'll delete this one.

I don't know if "all" are better... Christmas Vacation was utter crapola. I was lucky I got it for only $13.

I read that "Robocop" also had one of the most amazing transfers ever committed to disc . . .

From all of the reviews that I've seen here and elsewhere, there are probably only a handful of discs which aren't at least a step up from their DVD counterparts. It depends on what you mean, though -- are you just talking picture and sound quality, or do you also refer to extra content? Consistently, HD-DVDs score top marks in all three while BD seems to be a pretty mixed bag.

Are you looking for movies with better PQ, better AQ, better extras? Two out of three? Three out of three?

How about instead of a list of recommended High def discs, why not just list the ones that ARE NOT worth the upgrade? I'll be the first to nominate Traffic HD-DVD. The PQ is barely an improvement and the disc is bare bones. Since there's already an excellent Criterion 2 disc set full of features, I'd avoid this one.

I take that back... I forgot about The Fifth Element on BD. I rented it from Netflix, and I think I would prefer watching the upscaled SuperBit, there's just too much dirt present in HD to enjoy, especially in the opening. Every other title though I've viewed has shown a nice improvement IMO when projected to my 133" screen, including Traffic & Xmas Vacation... some more than others though for sure. I find the difference to be much more subtle for those that I've viewed on my secondary 42" display.

I always knew that Christmas Vacation wasn't going to be a stunning transfer, but I didn't imagine it would be half as bad as it was.
