I checked on Amazon and couldn't find the Scorsese on Scorsese doc on its own separate DVD, which means that the Departed DVD is currently the only place to get it (unless I'm missing another place that has it), so it sucks that they're keeping it off the HD/BD.

See how a documentary about the director of a movie is still related to the movie? :)

But it's still a special feature that has been left off of the HD version, and regardless of its content (which I still argue is relevant for Scorsese fans), it should have been on there.
It is a slippery slope to start saying "It's okay that they left this feature off because it's not 100% relevant" (though again, "Scorsese on Scorsese" included on a disc with a Scorsese film is relevant...but I digress). What next? You might as well argue that including something like the 1930s version of Scarface with the 1982 version was irrelevant and that it's okay if it's not carried over to HD, or the earlier versions of Ben-Hur, or The Maltese Falcon. Besides, who's to say if something is relevant or not? I say this documentary is, you say it isn't. The bottom line is, it should have been included. There's no excuse. And clearly, there is an excuse somewhere. We just don't know what it is. |

Point is...the 2 disc SE DOES have it. The BD and HD-DVD do not.
There are TONS of extras that they COULD have included, but we arent mad about those. We are angry that they didnt include ALL of the ones from the 2 disc SE. In the end, at least they have extras unlike FOX and MGM, but we can still gripe. ;) |

I personally consider that a much bigger issue that has never been addressed by Warner.
And yet THIS sets of warning signs to people about WB's dedication?! |

I'm still pissed about all the extras left off of Superman: The Movie.

And yet THIS sets of warning signs to people about WB's dedication?! But I have the Superman Ultimate Collection DVD set, so I've still got all the extras. The Scorcese on Scorcese extra is something I'm missing out on completely. |

And yet THIS sets of warning signs to people about WB's dedication?! As for this, though, I don't believe that the documentary was included because of ego (though I obviously don't have any solid proof one way or the other). If that were the case, then Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, and others who have gotten career documentaries on their respective WB special editions were also huge egomaniacs (which they might have been, but the point is that they weren't around to dictate and WB still put them on...I think the studio just likes to include these documentaries, which is more than fine by me). But as you said, we all have our personal feelings as to when it matters that some special feature wasn't carried over. Personally, I would be happy to lose fluffy EPK crap (from the nineties and '00s, that is...some from the 80s and before are entertaining) rather than a feature-length documentary on a major American filmmaker that's tangential to the movie it's paired with. However, I'm still of the mindset that EVERYTHING should be carried over, whether I personally like it or not. |

I do think it's how the Toshiba A1 processes it more than anything (just a hunch)... my BD from Amazon is waiting for me at home, can't wait to check it out. |

If that is what he heard in a one to one comparison, why take a shot? Is it not possible that the PCM is better on the Departed? It might be a different story on the next title, but I thought it was you that went off on a couple of posters for saying PCM was better than True HD based on different movies. And that in order to get a true measure you would need to compare PCM and True HD on the same title. Maybe that wasn't you though. Peter did the comparison, its his opinion, and his review. You have both formats. Let us know what you think. |

It's a player problem that Toshiba needs to correct with firmware.

Wow, Buy.com was really on the ball. I ordered this along with another title early Monday morning (because Amazon had apparently sold their initial allotment, and I wanted to make a purchase for that Paypal $15 deal), and it just got here!
I'm not sure what shipping I actually paid for, because the total was $5.36 for both discs (they didn't give me a choice of shipping type at checkout). It seems higher than standard, but not by much. |

just be glad yours doesn't show up like this guys from AVS:

Received mine from Amazon today and can't wait to check it out.

WOW, I am really impressed with my blu-ray copy of The Departed. pleasure to watch.
But I will ask this if someone can send me in the right direction since I just got my PS3... I"m looking for optimal settings for my Westinghouse 32w6 LCD posted somewhere either here or on avs, on my hdmi settings, like color, contrast, backlight, color temp, etc. Anyone know of a place to find some? ... it does look good as default settings, but I did end up changing my vga input for my 360 hd-dvd addon, so wondering if i need to change anything for my ps3 blu-ray playback? thanks in advance. |
Well, in the end I broke down and bought the HD version of it. But I got it for $.15 after a Amazon coupon and their 10% off deal, so I don't really feel so bad about it.
|
Has anyone else that ordered from DDD not received their copy yet? I know I chose the cheapest, free shipping but it's been over a week since they shipped it.
|
It can take from 1-3 weeks with media mail. Literally.
|
When I use DDD's free shipping, it usually takes about 10 business days after they ship to get it to me.
|
DVDplanet's free shipping is that way too....I usually only use it if its a title I can wait on.
|
Media mail is a Post Office concoction. It is very slow, and very cheap. I think first class (normal mail) costs more.
|
^ For packages over six ounces, Media Mail does, indeed, cost less than First Class. Media Mail is $1.59 for packages of up to one pound and $2.07 for one to two pounds. (I presume that volume shippers get discounts.) So, the old "book rate", now Media Mail, certainly is inexpensive.
Times on Media Mail are hit or miss. At each node in the delivery chain Media Mail packages have the lowest priority and are supposed to be last on the truck, if space is available. I generally have good luck with MM and get packages in a week or less. But it all depends on where it is being shipped from and where one lives. For those in Hawai'i it can take several weeks to a month. I never understood the impatience some have with regard to getting DVD shipments. I figure that I'll get it when I get it and that I have plenty of things to watch in the interim. So, I always go with the cheapest shipping option. |

I don't mind waiting, but when it gets over two weeks, I start worrying that the item was lost. I've had to deal with 6 or 7 lost shipments in the past and don't like it. |
