Bracke is using an HD-XA2, which has an issue with low bass in comparison to the HD-A1 and HD-XA1.
Are you saying that the XA2 has lower bass levels than the HD-A1 and HD-XA1, or that the XA2 has the same low bass level problem that the HD-A1 and HD-XA1 have?

That would really be something if it were worse off than those other two.

just be glad yours doesn't show up like this guys from AVS:

The XA2 is worse. Bass levels on the HD-A1 and HD-XA1 require a 10db boost at the receiver. Bass on the XA2 requires approximately 20db.

Received mine from Amazon today and can't wait to check it out.

WOW, I am really impressed with my blu-ray copy of The Departed. pleasure to watch.

But I will ask this if someone can send me in the right direction since I just got my PS3...

I"m looking for optimal settings for my Westinghouse 32w6 LCD posted somewhere either here or on avs, on my hdmi settings, like color, contrast, backlight, color temp, etc.

Anyone know of a place to find some? ... it does look good as default settings, but I did end up changing my vga input for my 360 hd-dvd addon, so wondering if i need to change anything for my ps3 blu-ray playback?

thanks in advance.

Supermallet 02-20-07 01:46 PM

Well, in the end I broke down and bought the HD version of it. But I got it for $.15 after a Amazon coupon and their 10% off deal, so I don't really feel so bad about it.

Noonan 02-20-07 02:26 PM

Has anyone else that ordered from DDD not received their copy yet? I know I chose the cheapest, free shipping but it's been over a week since they shipped it.

matome 02-20-07 02:28 PM

It can take from 1-3 weeks with media mail. Literally.

Mr. Cinema 02-20-07 02:51 PM

When I use DDD's free shipping, it usually takes about 10 business days after they ship to get it to me.

RockStrongo 02-20-07 03:21 PM

DVDplanet's free shipping is that way too....I usually only use it if its a title I can wait on.

Spiky 02-20-07 06:41 PM

Media mail is a Post Office concoction. It is very slow, and very cheap. I think first class (normal mail) costs more.

lizard 02-21-07 12:21 PM

^ For packages over six ounces, Media Mail does, indeed, cost less than First Class. Media Mail is $1.59 for packages of up to one pound and $2.07 for one to two pounds. (I presume that volume shippers get discounts.) So, the old "book rate", now Media Mail, certainly is inexpensive.

Times on Media Mail are hit or miss. At each node in the delivery chain Media Mail packages have the lowest priority and are supposed to be last on the truck, if space is available.

I generally have good luck with MM and get packages in a week or less. But it all depends on where it is being shipped from and where one lives. For those in Hawai'i it can take several weeks to a month.

I never understood the impatience some have with regard to getting DVD shipments. I figure that I'll get it when I get it and that I have plenty of things to watch in the interim. So, I always go with the cheapest shipping option.

I don't mind waiting, but when it gets over two weeks, I start worrying that the item was lost. I've had to deal with 6 or 7 lost shipments in the past and don't like it.

Noonan 02-21-07 08:25 PM

Yeah, this Friday will be two weeks since it has been shipped. I'm not in any huge rush but it's starting to get too long for my taste.

Waiting can suck. I have store credit to use at DVD Planet and have had them screw up 3 or my last 4 orders. One took 8 weeks to finally ship and get to me, the next one took 6 weeks to ship, they got the third one right and my most recent order for Green for Danger is still waiting as they are out of stock even though I preordered weeks in advance.

DVD Planet flat out sucks.

Well, that's pretty unfortunate so I understand your concern. I can't recall ever having a lost shipment. In some places theft from the mail is a problem, something that never occurs in my rural area.

Drexl 02-22-07 01:08 PM

I haven't had any lost shipments, but on two orders last year a disc was missing (the invoice had two titles, but there was just one in the envelope). It was from two different retailers, and in each case thankfully they shipped "another" copy of each missing title. It took a while with one of them though, as it was backordered when they processed the claim.

Well, we constantly get mail for our neighbors and sometimes they return mail that belongs to us. Maybe somebody is getting and keeping my discs.

Our local post office sucks. We've complained several times and they just tell us to get a PO box.

Re: Warner goes PCM for Blu-Ray: The Departed

Bump.

Just watched the BD release of this for the second time and the PQ is truly awful. The skin color on everyone looks red or orange in almost every scene. I've seen this in HD on HBO and it didn't look anywhere near this bad. In fact, it was 10 times better. Another great job WB. You suck.

RocShemp 02-13-09 10:14 PM

Re: Warner goes PCM for Blu-Ray: The Departed

I remember the redish (though it's not extreme by any means) skin tones on the HD DVD as well (though it's been a while since I last watched it) and always assumed it was a stylistic choice of the director.

Uh, yeah. I vaguely remember seeing that in the theater as well.

but I was probably high, so who knows.

So, why the hell does this have less extras than the dvd?

Re: Warner goes PCM for Blu-Ray: The Departed

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just picked up the "Awards Edition" of The Departed (the one with the awful slipcover that has a smaller image of the original BD cover art).

Can anyone tell me if the actual cover on the case underneath is the original BD cover art?
