Makes alot of sense. |
I am not to worried about Disney , my Majority of disney buying comes from their animation , i rarely ever buy disney or buena vista movies , in fact Pirates is one their best release in a long time ,but beyond that i don't clamour to buena vista. ANd Buena vista has a bad track of releasing dvds , i mean they outright canceled Gargoyles on dvd , boy meets world and other stuff , i mean people who were collecting those , were done with no chance of completing their collections. Buena Vista has a record of doing this alot.
We also have to remember Universal is an Old dinosaur it dominated all the way thru the 90's. It has only been in th 2000 after they changed President that Universal has been making bad choices , but you know what that won't be forever and Universal hasn't been near as bankrup as Disney heck 3 times in the last decade. Also if all things go well George lucas and Steven spielberg will be returning to Universal after a long time , this could turn out to be a great for the company and put them back on top. Now Sure Blu-ray has already schedual all those movies and that is great ,but what good is it they have alll those released and only 10 of 200 are even bought? it is like SOny We shipped 1 million Ps3 , but what good is that if you didn't sell 1 million? in the end of the day it is not what you are coming out with or what ur shipping , it is what is being sold and what is out. And There are ton of exclusivs already coming out on dvd that i won't be getting any time on HD DVd or Blu-ray. Remember A war is never won by whom ever has the greatest army remember the battle of thermapoly , The battle between Ceaser and Magnus and even WW2 the winners were never the favorites... |
Wow...Jan 16th sucks for me. Clerks II, Pulse on HD and RE: Apocolypse and Employee of the Month BR. Gonna be EXPENSIVE.

Blu-ray Disc Association declares victory over HD DVD
The Blu-ray Disc Association has wasted no time, issuing a statement that it is victorious as the premiere high definition format of choice. With 25 different companies having released Blu-ray related products, over 170 movie and music titles announced so far and of course, more than one million PlayStation 3s shipped to the U.S. Andy Parsons, chair of the U.S. Promotions committee is comfortable citing Blu-ray's industry support as a reason customers have voted with their wallets and will continue to do so. In 2007 the BDA looks forward to second generation PC and and standalone Blu-ray drives, like the BD-P1200, the Sony Vaio XL3 and a strong lineup of movie releases as why its market share will continue to increase this year, all but eliminating any competition by 2010. Sony...they must have the biggest balls in history. So they SHIPPED a millon PS3s...congratulations, lets take a walk into any store and see stacks of them on the floor. Lets congratulate them with software sales STILL below HD-DVD, lets congratulate them on STILL, with Blu-Ray inside of PS3, having a higher 'start' price then HD. Yeah Sony, lets give it up for that victory! "Top 5 Selling titles to Date in order: Underworld Evolution, Talladega Nights, Fifth element, Click , Ultraviolet." |

Sony must really want to knock this one out of the park if they're avoiding MPEG2. |

24 on BD sounds killer, but I've gotta see the pricing on this one first....
Where is Universal??? |
Looks like the winds are changing in HD land. I really want to give HD DVD the benefit, but with all the problems I have had with my A1 and this horrible showing at CES I may move to Blu-ray much sooner than I thought. I have to give Blu-ray a lot of credit as they have their partners stepping up big for CES. Could this be the beginning of the end of HD DVD?
|
I don't see how they could price 24 at an unreasonable level since it routinely shows up for 19.99 during sales. If it's over $60-70, there is a problem.

Im hoping there is something up their sleeve. |
Yep. It all comes down to studio support; sadly nothing else matters. HD-DVD cannot win the war unless BD studios change sides or become neutral. For a long time, there were rumors this would happen at CES. It didn't. The war is far from over, but this is a big blow.

HD-DVD fanboy saying "God-damn" to the announcements coming out of from the BD camp.
If only I had enough money to be a BD fanboy. :) |
Wow. Sounds like HD-DVD is getting spanked at CES. This is really disappointing. I was hoping to at least get some decent announcements for HD-DVD. Oh well.

I can't fing believe the lack of news from the HD DVD camp... Blu-ray has been beating the shit out of them at CES so far... I mean come on, Casino Royale, Weeds, 24 and Pirates are the kind of titles that will get me to go blu. As many have said, where is Universal... they really need to bring some IMPRESSIVE titles to the plate SOON (Jaws, Jurassic Park, Battlestar and Office Seasons)... Frak this is getting to me.
