Toshiba HD-A2 delayed until Dec. 11
Just talked to the guy who runs Value Electronics and he said that he got word this morning that the 2A wouldn't ship until the week of Dec. 11th. :(
|
Is this the case with the XA2 as well?

The XA2 was always scheduled for a December release.

I received two more HD DVDs today, rubbing salt into my wounds since I cannot play them yet. I just hope I get the HD A2 by Christmas.
|
Wow, Toshiba is dropping the ball here. After all that hard work wooing many away from BD they go and make promises and do not keep them. I just want more firmware updates for the A1.
|
Aren't we already talking about this in the HD-DVD thread?
|
Wow. This is very surprising. Has anyone seen any of the A1's in stores recently. I know you can still find them online if you know where to look, but with the holiday season a week away this is going to hurt. The average consumer wants to walk into Best Buy and buy whatever it is they are looking for. Wasn't the A2 supposed to be out in October? We all know Sony and Pioneers issues with delivering their players, but at least BD will have the Sharp, Sammy, and Panasonic on store shelves all of November and December.

You might be, but I would have never seen this without a dedicated thread. All of Sony's delays have been posted in their own threads as well. |

Finally got Robert's e-mail. Not only am I going to turn down the "offers", but I'm probably going to cancel my order. I found it condescending that he considers "hey, sorry for the delay, but if you buy more shit from me I'll make it up to you" a "silver lining". Not for me thanks. I'd prefer to wait this out a little more.
|
Can a mod put the new release date in the thread title? I guess I get a little spooked every time I see this thread and think that it's been delayed again....again....again.

Additionally, what he's offering is a pretty good deal. I think the intention was "If you were dead planning on playing HD DVDs this week, then here is an alternative." It isn't the dealer's fault, and to blame him is silly.
|
I called VE and they sent me the email. I will keep my order, wait for the A2, and hope it is actually released in December.
|
Any word on the A2? Is it still coming out on the 11th?
|
I've got mine pre-ordered and everything I've heard still has it slated for a week of December 11th shipment to distributors. So it could be any time that week when they receive them and then they have to ship them to us. Hopefully Crutchfield can turn my order around quickly...these HD-DVDs I've bought are just calling out to be watched.
|
I'm on the fence and seriously considering the A2 for purchase so I hope this gets to the store shelves by next week.
I plan on having the player output the video to 720p (the native resolution of my HDTV). Does anyone here with the A1 do the same? I was wondering on the PQ versus outputting in 1080i. |
I think most people with 720 displays set the player to 1080. Even though the TV is downscaling it, you're still sending more information to it from the source.
|
Now I'm beginning to rethink the purchase of the Toshiba HDA2 as it no longer has 5.1 analog out (which the HDA1 has). I've got an older receiver (Denon AVR 5700) and it doesn't have hdmi ports, however, it's got 7.1 input.
Is it true then that I will not have DD+, DD True HD, and DTS Master audio? If so, I might as well get an Xbox 360 add-on HD-DVD player. |

Thanks for the info. I'm going through the thread at AVS forum where the topic is G2 HD-A2 and HD-XA2 and I've gathered as much as you've indicated. It seems the A2 is Toshiba's entry level unit for those getting into HD-DVD and that they sold the A1 at a loss to get the format into more households. Once I'm done with that thread (~20 pages still to read :brickwl: ) I'll be reading the feedback on the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on. From what I've gathered about this is that the audio level is low and most have been compensating by turning up the volume as well as some audio-sync issues which would drive me crazy. Edited to add: Some users are reporting that bass levels on the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on are low. That's a huge negative for me. :( |
SHIPPING CONFIRMATIONS HAVE GONE OUT FOR A2's! THEY'VE BEGUN SHIPPING!
|
I hope B&M's have these on shelves next week too, granted, it'll be in very limited quantities I'm sure.

Hi guys,
I'm not technical savy about the electronic, but wondering if you guys can help me if purchasing the HD-A2 is not compatiable with the my current setup. I have an old receiver Yamaha RX-V800. I hooked my Bose 5.1 cube speakers to this unit. Here's the spec of the receiver: http://www99.epinions.com/_Yamaha_RX...ay_~full_specs I have HDTV LCD with hdmi. 1. Will I be able to hook up the HD-A2 to this set? My hearing is not the greatest to tell the difference with all the new audio technology, but i'm already happy with my current audio speakers. I'm just afraid that if I buy it, then I can't get the audio to work on the unit. 2. Do you know if the Toshiba HD-A2 is multi-region for the standard DVD movies? Is it remote hackable? Thank you so much in advance, |
It doesn't appear that that receiver has any HDMI inputs. Therefore, you will have to use the optical output of the A2. If your hearing isn't the greatest (mine isn't either), I doubt you would notice the difference between the audio from the optical and the audio from HDMI.
I do not believe any of the Toshiba HD-DVD players have region coding. However, I thought I heard that this may be coming at a later date via a firmware upgrade. But as of now, I don't think they have region coding (not 100% though). But fairly certain. Also, more good news, people at AVSForum are receiving shipping notifications from (I guess the store with the initials VE is not allowed here) on the HD-A2. THEY'RE EARLY!!! I can't wait for mine!! (It's coming from Crutchfield though, not VE) |

Btw...check those bank statements if you ordered through Robert/Value Electronics:
A very large allocation is shipping tomorrow, we are beginning to charge those orders that are shipping tomorrow. The next allocation is shipping on Monday or Tuesday and all orders will be fulfilled by Thursday, 12/14/06. |
Had to talk to Crutchfield today because my TV was damaged during shipment. They still do not show the HD-A2 in the warehouse. Hopefully it'll come in soon.

awesome news...
This HD player is fantastic. Fast loading, great responsive remote control, beautiful chassis, unbelievable picture and audio quality as great as my XA1 playing the same movie on the same Pioneer Elite PROFHD1 50" 1080p plasma display. (I'm using a Gefen 2x1 HDMI splitter so I can quickly switch sources, XA1/A2). Yes, you heard it right, thanks to Toshiba we are shipping today!!! |

Yes, got A2 From BB today! Had my A1 in to their repair facility for over a month and they said not repairable, so gave me exchange for A2. I tried to get A2 before lunch today but had not come in yet! Behold, got phone call from BB at 1PM and UPS just delivered the first A2 shipment so dashed over and picked it up. I know there are many questions, and I only had chance to do quick test but so far it's much better than A1 for performance. I checked out the first problem title for most folks with E.O.Days and played TrueHD track flawless not lag, pause or hiccups at all. Then checked out some of KK just to be sure it works and just fine with it. First thing I noticed on my setup is even better blacks, at least to my eyes. Also much faster, how fast? just like Toshiba says about twice as quick as A1. Another plus is when movie does start don't get all the flashing and video noise like the A1, just starts smooth like it should. Not a lot of time spent with it yet, so hope this helps take the edge of all you folks still waiting for it to get in your hands. I think it is well worth the wait, but of course my A1 was great for about 6 months before it got sick, hope our new A2's will have better results |
I'll definitely get the A2 next year. I love the A1, but the A2 will likely be much more friendly playing discs. My A1 has gotten glitchy lately. I'll never get rid of it, but the A2's positive reviews are nice to hear.
