Robert of Value Electronics has lowered the HD-A2 player again. Now, he's offering the HD-A2 for $399 + free shipping + free 2 HD DVDs or 4-year warranty. I'm getting close to replacing my A1.

Gizmo 02-18-07 09:42 PM

WTF! I JUST bought one at Best Buy and now he has it for $65 less with 2 additional movies? Time to order from Robert and return my other A2 to Best Buy then.

I still see it at $499 on his website...

Tell me about this coupon. Where did you get it? Is it one time use on just one item, or is it good for your whole purchase?

For one item only and its found in their ad for this week. They usually have plenty of copies in store. I almost used it on a 60 gig PS3, but I'm not sure if I want that or a standalone player.

 I won't. (The nearest Best Buy is 300 miles away, so I rarely shop there.)

They are also giving 0% interest for two years on all purchases $999 and up. So on the same purchase if you find an additional $200 on hmoe theater items you can get that instead of the 90 days you would normally receive. Personally, I would rather spend the extra $200 and be able to keep my $1000 invested and building interest for two years than to pay $800 cash up front...
Those "0% interest" deals at stores tend to come with a lot of catches; most notable is that the interest accrues monthly and if one is even a day late in paying off the balance at the end of the teaser period one gets hit with back interest to the purchase date. So, read the fine print carefully and be meticulous about paying off the balance before the deal expires.

He's got a special link for AVS members with that price.

It's a separate section from the ad, I'm pretty sure it's all the stores.

So they're going to have the BR in store, but the HD-DVD online only? Gheez, HD-DVD is sinking fast :( The saddest part is that the $10/$20 off offer still doesn't make their prices competitive.

Those deals don't really beat Amazon if you buy less than 3 titles, but they would be great for someone getting started. (3 $20 titles for $40, for instance.)

EDIT: oh wait, I forgot, BB charges $25 for titles that should be $20, right? Forget it.

Now if Speedy would just use the proper terminology for BD. ;)

Who says you can't price-match?

That's what I'm going to do. Price-match and still take advantage.

Great! Just bought my A2 yesterday and got NOTHING. Wonder if I should return it and rebuy it on Sunday? Wonder if they would let me choose 4 free movies or is that not a 'pricematch'?

Same situation happened to me. I bought the A2 when it first came out at BB and 2-3 weeks later they had a deal with get two free discs. I just took the receipt back in, they did a return and re-ring with the free discs. I ended up paying $349.99 for the A2 and two free hd dvd's.

Hmm. I paid $460 for the A2 after a 12% coupon. If I go back on Sunday I get 4 free movies...wonder if there is a price limit? Will Smallville/MI Trilogy/Sopranos work? OR I could order from Value Electronics and get it for $399 shipped to my door with 2 free movies of my choice. I would be paying $60 extra for 2 movies...worth it? Hmmm.

I wish Speedy would be a but more detailed. Is it 4 free movies RIGHT NOW, or 1 free movie and the 3 mailaway ones?

Let us know if that works. I would think their computers would shut down the $20 back deal after adjusting for a price match. I price matched a tv a month ago and could not get them to give me the free shipping that was advertised.

I went to Circuit City today looking through their blu ray selection and lo and behold, found Babel for 24.99. It rang up at 29.99 but the lady at the counter price adjusted the Blu ray. Not sure if its national, but the sticker reads 24.99.

Maxflier 02-23-07 09:56 AM

I didn't realize the LG Combo player was coming out next week (or even confirmed to be coming out at all). Is that for real?

It's BEEN out.

And it certainly isn't a bargain. I don't know why you're posting here.

That's funny because YOU'RE the one who posted it in the first place.
But by all means, excuse the fuck out of me for posting in this thread your highness.

Then maybe you should quote what you're referring to. Clearly you're not quoting a bargain.

Maxflier 02-23-07 10:20 AM

Sorry, I didn't mean to indicate a bargain. I only saw your post above and was suprised to see an LG combo player, especially considering this.

dude...that was 9 months ago.

Bokasmo 02-23-07 12:40 PM

I'd like a combo player, but this first LG one. Crippled upon release. For $1200, it better have ALL functionality.

Any news on a 2nd gen, non-crippled, combo-player? Or a 1st gen by another company?

Same thing in Huntington Beach, CA. Bought one at $24.99.

Blu ray was $29.99.
