$799 was the original MSRP.

...and the price should come down to $426 with the 12% off coupon.

That's a lotta bones for a refurb (refurb already???)...

BD titles are swaying my decision. And that price for a refurb XA1 is pushing it more.

Then buy a BD player. This however is not a bad price for a refurbished 800 dollar player. with the coupon it would be 50% off. What do you want a 80% off price for refurbished gear? I have been contemplating wether or not to get a unit for my basment and this is very tempting. I wonder what the warranty is and how much an extended one is. I purhcased a scanner from these guys refubished back in the day and it worked beautifully. Just another of many options as I am definitly getting that 360 add on for the bedroom!! Thx for the link.

PS...

I hear ya, supr! I am pretty close myself but I want to see how much better the G2s are as far as load times, responsiveness, HDMI syncing. I know it won't be as robust a build and I'm not interested in th analog audio outs as I plan to upgrade my reciever next year.

Honestly, the XA2 would be an awesome pick-up for me, but it's all a question of affording it versus other things.

I'm seriously interested in this one, but I'm unsure, so I just emailed Overstock regarding the condition of the item in question and to help me feel more secure about actually buying it, and this is what transpired:

"Welcome to Overstock.com's Customer Service Live Chat! You will be joined with a chat representative momentarily.
Welcome to Overstock.com Customer Service, you are now chatting with Chuckward.
Chuckward: Thanks for visiting Overstock.com, my name is Chuckward, how can I help you?
you: Hi Chuckward. My name is Paul. You have a Toshiba High Def DVD player that's been refurbished. It's like $400+ and I was wondering if it has any scratches on the face-plate, because if it's damaged like that, I won't want it, and I'll have to pay big time for return shipping. Is there any way to find out the physical condition of this unit?
Chuckward: I understand that you wish to find out whether the TV has any physical damages.
Chuckward: I'm sorry, it is a DVD player.
you: That's correct.
Chuckward: I'll be glad to check this information for you.
you: Wow! That's great! I wasn't sure you could actually do that!
Chuckward: May I know the catalog number or the complete title of the item you are referring to so that I can help you correctly?
you: Okay. Here it is: Catalog #: 10387186
Chuckward: Are you referring to the 'Toshiba HD-XA1 Cinema Series HD DVD Player' for $485.95?
you: That's the one!
Chuckward: Thank you for confirming the item.
you: You're welcome.
Chuckward: Would you mind holding while I check on that for you?
you: Not at all! Tell me the truth! I can take it!
Chuckward: Thank you for staying on hold.
you: No pro-blem-o. What's it look like?
Chuckward: First of all, let me explain you what reconditioned items mean.
you: I think I already know what...
Chuckward: Reconditioned items means Customers return products for many reasons: a customer may change his or her mind, not like the product, or have difficulty operating it.
you: Yes, I know, but I need to know what it physically looks like...
Chuckward: Whether it is returned a month later or only the very next day, such an item must be identified as reconditioned or refurbished to be resold.
you: I understand all of that. What I need to know is...
Chuckward: It may have small blemishes and be totally "like new" but it has been double quality checked and represents a terrific savings to the customer from the original MSRP.
you: Thanks for all that, however...
Chuckward: Did I explain this clearly to you?
you: Yes you did. Actually, I already know all of that stuff. (I read it on the website, well except for the blemishes part.), and I guess I'll just have to take a chance...
you: It's the return shipping that grabs tightly at my crotch and just won't let me go.
Chuckward: Please don't worry, it will have very small blemishes.
you: Yeah, I know, I know.
Chuckward: I'm sorry.
you: Me too! Oh well, now I'll have to convince the wife! Anyway, thanks for your suggestion and time, and have a great night and week, Chuckward!
Chuckward: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
you: Nope, that's it.
Chuckward: Thanks for shopping with us. Upon closing this window, a survey will display. Your feedback is important, please complete this survey. It takes less than one minute.
you: Hey! That's what they all say!
Chuckward: Take care and bye.
you: Thanks, and good-night."

Sure do!

Well, I will shortly.

However, if this new one works out (and isn't all banged to Hell and works okay), I'll return the A1 to Fry's. Otherwise, I'll return the one from Overstock and keep the one from Frys. One way or the other I'm gonna end up with just one HD DVD player.

Hey! I'm lookin' for a good price on a Blu-Ray too, as I just yesterday bought Disney's 'Dinosaur', and seriously need something to play it on!

Anyone?

OH, & BTW: Thanks, candyrocket!

(So far so good... )

I thought to take advantage of this deal with the 12% off, but the 12% coupon expired on the 23rd. O well, I'll keep searching for the right deal.

Those are both refurbs (like my XA1).

I used Overstock.com's '10% off any order' thing and paid $440.30, shipped.

Subtotal: $485.95
Discount: $48.60
Shipping: $2.95 ('Site-Wide', or so they call it...)
Taxes: $0.00

Total: $440.30

I know it's not '12%', but it's better than nothin'!
