Your favorite HD disc so far
The main reason why I have yet to buy an HD player is the movie selection. There is not ONE movie that I'd really like to buy that has been released on BD or HD DVD. The closest thing to a must-buy for me is The Italian Job, but I can't justify spending $400 for one movie. Plus it got less than stellar reviews.
Anyway, what's your favorite HD disc so far? Feel free to focus on the movie content only, or on PQ/AQ, or the IME/extras, or the combinations. I generally don't care if they port over all the extras from the SD versions as long as they port over all the good extras from the SD versions (IMHO, <50% of the extras are ever worth watching). I'd like to have a little collection now so that I'd have an extra incentive to buy a player. I'd most likely buy the A2 within a month and the PS3 when it becomes readily available (without having to pay a premium or having to pre-order). |
Wow, you must have a REALLY limited assortment of movies that you like if there is not one single movie on BR or HD DVD that you would want.
My pick goes to Seabiscuit. |
The one I've spent the most time with is Enter the Dragon.

I honestly don't have a favorite but Jarhead really stood out for me. Loved its look AND sound. |
The Searchers. Amazing restoration and a movie I love deeply.
For a more passive sit-back-and-enjoy type of experience, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. |
Even though it's not my favorite movie, quality-wise, Seabiscuit is my favorite.

Overall (movie, audio/video): Batman Begins
Audio/Video only: The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift Runner up: Training Day |
I've been watching Grand Prix. The racing scenes are amazing to see in HD.

Batman Begins
Serenity Tokyo Drift Fast and the Furious |
Serenity is still tops for me.
Unforgiven, although not as flashy as some of the action/sci-fi flicks, also holds up against any of the other releases really well. |
Well, there is such a wide variety of titles out now (different eras, genres, etc.) that it's hard to pick a 'favorite'.
However, The Adventures of Robin Hood leaps to mind. Fantastic (classic) film, great transfer, three HD looney tunes, and more extras than you shake a stick at. Launches of new formats are always a tough time, since studios tend to focus on very recent films that were often soft at the box office. If you aren't looking to add Stealth, Tokyo Drift, or Aeon Flux to your collection, you're often out of luck. But I really think HD has been good in that regard, putting out a fairly wide variety of titles. What sort of things are you looking for? |
Seabiscuit is currently my favorite. Great movie and amazing PQ and AQ. Not to mention some great extras.
Unforgiven, The Adventures of Robin Hood and the Searchers are pretty amazing as well. |

My pick goes to Seabiscuit. But ... since many of you seem to really enjoy the Seabiscuit disc (even if some of you didn't like the movie), I may purchase that for technical reasons. Kinda like why I bought SW: Ep. II on DVD. |
Batman Begins and The Adventures of Robin Hood were two of my favorite SD-DVDs, so it stands to reason they're now my two favorite HD-DVDs.

Some of the movies that I'm looking forward to (off the top of my head): The Matrix Pirates of the Caribbean (first one) X-Men Series LOTR Series Indiana Jones Series Various Disney and Pixar animated |
I am a The Fast and The Furious fan so I was extremely pleased with getting that disc. I am looking foward to getting Grand Prix and Batman Begins. I am also interested to see Sahara - still sitting unopened on my desk (damn horror movie challenge). Overall I am pleased with all my disc.

heh. I must be the only person on the planet who actually enjoyed Aeon Flux.
|
I only have a half dozen discs, with two more on the way. For me, Serenity remains the favorite but I have been very pleased with Seabiscuit and Grand Prix, both in PQ/AQ, extras, and simple entertainment value of the movies. The latter movie I hadn't seen since it came out in Cinerama in 1966 and I had forgotten how amazing the racing footage was. The extras on how they actually did it were quite interesting.
I'll be using Seabiscuit to show off the format to some friends in the near future; they have never seen the movie. Your list of titles you want are pretty much ones I would get also, save for The Matrix, which I enjoyed but wouldn't want to re-watch. And there are only two Disney/Pixar animated titles I would actually buy in HD for my collection; neither of them among the most popular. I also have a mental list of "must haves" but won't post it because they are not the sort of things that the demographic here would appreciate, for the most part. :) |

Batman Begins gets first place.
Troy is next for me. |

Sorry namja, didn't mean to hijack your thread. Never should have put that last sentence in my post above. |

My wife must watch that thing at least once a month. That would be at the top of my list.
