Br / Bd?

I often see BD when people are talking about Blu-Ray. I would figure that BR would be the shorthand. What does BD mean? Digi, Blu-Ray Death maybe :) :) :) :) :) :D

Blu-Ray disc I believe.

"BD" stands for "Blu-ray disc". It's the official acronym.

bboisvert 09-11-06 03:50 PM

It stands for Blu-ray Disc. It's the official abbreviation that the association went with.

See the official site: http://www.blu-raydisc.com/
"Getting Started with BD", etc.

Although, I agree: BR is more natural and I find myself typing that accidentally more often then not.

I used to get yelled at by several members for calling it BR.

I've been trained to use the proper abbreviation.

Woof.

I always called it BRD. Good to see "BD" is official.

Also, for the longest time I called it HD-DVD. It's just HD DVD. No hyphen.

Supermallet 09-11-06 05:20 PM

I did the hyphen thing for a long time, as well.

They probably chose it because it sounded like "CD" or DVD." CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, BD-ROM.
