RUMOR: PS3 games not able to do 1080p, will upconvert 720p
"Whatever changes are made to the hardware however, we are told that Sony will not be able to meet its initial target of 1080p Full HD that it had originally set and will instead deliver 720p and will upscale it or allow the new TVs to do so. This, apparently, will save CPU cycles and will save gamers from the dreaded loss of frame rate."
http://www.megagames.com/news/html/c...revealed.shtml Man, this isn't a big deal to me, but I haven't been touting the huge advantage of 1080p over 1080i. And now the PS3 will upconvert 720p? I am actually waiting and wanting a positive PS3 rumor. edit: link fixed. This is actually from February. Didn't hear anything about it back then. |
Not surprised. The amount of CPU power 1080p vs 720p uses is huge, but the picture quality difference would be negligible.
|
:rotfl:
Now THIS deserves it's own thread. I'll say it again. WHAT A FUCKING MESS. Edit: wait. that article is from February. That's too old. Something had to have changed. Wait. Am i actually giving Sony/BD some credit???!?!? |
My TV only does 1080i or 540p.....so where does that leave me?
|
It upconverts, so you would be good.
|
as digi noted what a clusterfuck
this doesn't surprise me at the least. |
I almost think Sony is trying to sink themselves.
|
I'd be willing to outright dismiss that article, not only because it's so old, but the article also says the PS3 will be out in the summer in Japan.
Also, it's from "MegaGames"... |
Feb 14 article? You guys are reaching beyond the limits of fanboys. The PS3 WILL do 1080p out. Gran Turismo HD news which was just a few weeks ago stated how it will be 100% 1080P and it will playback movies at 1080P.
|
I didn't know I was a fanboy. :(
I certainly hope you are right. Again, I don't think it honestly matters, but I don't have my heart and soul wrapped up in it. |
Isn't the message of that article that certain games will not be at 1080p, not that the movies won't be? That's if there's credence to it's claims. Shouldn't this have been reported all over a number of more trustworthy sites if it was true?
|
Blitz,
If it's true, are you still going to get one? I don't see why anyone WOULD at this point. |

You can do 1080p over component.

Considering that almost no video games are actually developed in 1080, this isn't really a big deal if it isn't affecting the movies. But it would be one less selling point that Sony can use. You can bet I'm going to tell every customer at my store about this.

If this only relates to games, it's really not deserving of its own thread in this forum.
