The Searchers HD DVD
 

I picked up The Searchers last night at Circuit City. They weren't going to let me buy it at first, because according to their system, it's not supposed to be out for another two months (?). It took the employee a while to ring it up.

The picture quality on this HD DVD is excellent. It also helps that this is a great movie, not just a good HD demo disc. The amount of detail that can be seen in the Monument Valley backgrounds is stunning.

The insert that came with the disc showed the packaging for The Matrix, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Batman Begins, Troy, and The Shawshank Redemption, so hopefully those will be hitting HD DVD soon.

I just bought the bix box with the Anniversary Edition in it. Does this have those same extras?

The HD disc contains all of the supplements on the SD. But it doesn't have the same nice packaging or cool inserts, just a standard HD-DVD case.

It looks like it does have the same extras as the 2-disc SD DVD edition. It doesn't come with any of the physical extras of the big box, of course.

So, buy the HD version and keep it on your shelf in the nice SD packaging. :D

The insert for the discs that came out back in April show those titles. :mad:

I guess it all depends on one's definition of "soon." :)

Amazon says mine should be delivered on August 30th.
