Interesting HD-DVD Release List-
Juat saw this and found it very interesting.
Caveat: If this post spawns any "My format has more launch titles than your format!!!!" posts, "I only count 103 and the PR said 104!!!" posts, etc., I will delete it. I *hate* that line of childish bickering here. I'm posting this because (1) I found it, (2) it *may* hold some release strategy nuggets, (3) it's interesting that some titles have *apparently* already been dropped/replaced and (4) it's interesting that some titles are being held for new masters. I'm just the messenger, the source isn't confirmed, it's not a complete HD DVD title compilation, it's stale data (compiled in January), heck, there many even by a SPHE title in there, so just take it for what it is...an incomplete, 100% unvetted compilation of major studio HD DVD titles and street dates, as of a period of time that has already passed. I'm sure there are people here who have better data, but can't post it, so this might be as good as it gets until all of this is public info. Here goes... How accurate is this list. Did it actually come from Warner or was it just fan rumoring. Many of the dates have turned out to be wrong but 5/9 Rumor has It release appeares to have been dead right this indicates this list has some truth to it.
Assuming this list is accurate (meaning these titles are being planned for the new formats even if the dates aren't 100% correct) then some of the choices surprise me. For example given that it took 8 years for the original King Kong to come to DVD I am surprised it would be planned for HD-DVD/Blu-Ray so soon. As for Justice League Season two I am surprised they would care enough about this show for a high def release given they announced a non-anamorphic DVD release in June. Though I am hoping maybe the lack of anamorphic encoding to to actually help the high definition release with a more dramatic difference (still stupid in my opinion). Why is Superman and Superman Returns have different release dates when Warner announced they will come in the same pack on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. |

quite a few I'd get on that list if true. I'll be all over Supernatural Season 1 in HD as soon as it hits if true.

This list was leaked online a few months back, before Hd-dvd's final delay. Many of the dates got thrown around, but this list seems to be very close to the titles we are gearing up for the next few months.

I have no doubt that now that Warner has done some expensive HD remasters for films like Kong , Wizard of Oz and Gone With the Wind that they will want to get those on HD DVD.

Is Il Mare the original Korean movie or a remake? The original is one of my favorite movies and I would buy an HD DVD player just for that. Has anyone heard about availability of HD DVD titles in Asia, I would like to get some of my favorite Korean and Japanese movies on HD DVD

It's not exactly the same, but I already have an HD IL MARE. I got the HDWMV dvd/disc that was in the 6 disc IL MARE box set that was selling for $20 late last year in Korea
I am surpised however. Of all the Asian films, or even international...IL MARE?! You'd think they would have used "OLD BOY" since it's already out on HD DVD in Japan, just without English sub's and it's (I assume) a more popular title in North America. |
Since we are getting closer to the holiday season and will be expecting some Warner announcements for Nov and Dec soon, I thought I'd bump this thread back up. This leaked list does seem to be pretty accurate compared to what has been released by WB. I bolded the titles that are released or have release dates. Also, two titles are on the list twice under different names: Il Mare(Lake House) and Jelly Beans(The ATL)

going by what has been released and announced so far. Nobody could get this lucky with predictions without having some kind of access to this information. You know the studio had to have a long term plan on paper as well so its not hard to belive that a list like this existed in the first place as Transfers take time and they would have to have some sort of list on which nes they were going to focus on first. I for one will look at this list as fact, give or take maybe a couple titles due to unforseen events, and ill just ignore the release dates. Definitly some great titles on this sucker. I really hope they do with the Matrix what they did with Mission Impossible and offer the whole series as a box set. Would really be nice to see that 10 Disc Ultimate Matrix box set transfered over to HD. Would get that in a millisecond. PS.. |

This certainly would explain the rumors of why VC1 encoding is getting so much better now as compared to the launch titles. Some of the launch titles were supposedly encoded in late 2005, early 2006. It would also explain why many titles like Harry Potter and Batman were pushed back, to get a new updated encode ready. One last thing, I'm pretty sure that one title on this list, Shawshank Redemption, has been pushed back for some reason and is not going to be released this year. Well going by that list and hoping alot of those do indeed get announced I'm 100% satisfied with jumping in the HD-DVD game this early. There is quite a few titles on there that I would love to own.

This certainly would explain the rumors of why VC1 encoding is getting so much better now as compared to the launch titles. Some of the launch titles were supposedly encoded in late 2005, early 2006. It would also explain why many titles like Harry Potter and Batman were pushed back, to get a new updated encode ready. One last thing, I'm pretty sure that one title on this list, Shawshank Redemption, has been pushed back for some reason and is not going to be released this year. Is there any info or explanation about titles that say dropped? I would REALLY like to have both Dirty Harry and The Exorcist.

I'm bummed The OC Season 3 was never announced for HD-DVD. Will love to pikc that up instead of the standard relelase in a few weeks.

The Poseidon HD DVD is coming out a few months after the dvd due to the IME feature. Perhaps the same for V?
Davis DVD says the Poseidon HD DVD will contain the 98 minute theatrical cut and a 125 minute extended version. Cool! |
