Blu Ray DVD Covers revealed...
Barf. Black or nothing please.
Looks cheap and tacky too. http://gearmedia.ign.com/gear/image/...6103511006.jpg More pics here: http://media.gear.ign.com/articles/6...59/imgs_1.html Credit: IGN.com |
You should post these in the HD Forum area: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=55

They probably did this so Joe Sixpack won't buy the wrong disc, and return it to wal-mart cause it won't work on his player. The case is distinctive. No mistaking it for legacy DVD.
|
I'd like to see them in dark cases like Return of the King. Why can't they just use colored wrap. Those cases are terrible.
|
Like the blue case. Anyone know the how much the movies will cost? What about HD-DVD how much will the movies be?
|
I don't like the new cases either, they look like cheap crap a video rental store would use.
|
If the standard case looks crappy, I wonder what their collectible packaging will look like.

I wonder about physical dimensions. I hope I don't have to re-adjust my dvd shelves to accommodate the new package type.

I like the blue, but I admit it does look cheap like something a rental outfit might use. Is there any other choice but blue?? I mean they've got to differentiate between SDVD (black) and HD-DVD (red). Also they want to create and reinforce name recognition with "Blu-Ray". Blue is a given. Hopefully final versions will be of good quality. |

Quote: No definitive announcements, but expectations are $5-$10 higher than regular DVDs. I believe if they price DVDs $25.00 - $30.00 will really put a hurt on the industry. The reason people buy DVDs now is the price point. I would find it very difficult buying a DVD for $25 - $30 eventhough I have spend over 10K on my HT System. Prices will need to come down to where they are today or maybe a little higher like a buck or two. Just my thoughts. |

One, most consumers equate price with quality. A slightly higher price gives the next-gen formats more prestige than standard DVD. Two, the studios won't start off with the large install base with HD-DVD/Blu-Ray that DVD has now, so slightly higher prices are more understandable. Three, unless you took advantage of the ridiculous online sales at the time, you probably weren't paying $15 for big-name theatrical releases on DVD in 1997 either. Prices should come down over time. |
Pretty crappy looking IMO. Don't like the clear blue at all.
|
Saw them at CES and thought they didn't look too bad. Like that HD-DVD is in red. Looks like a red/blue states standoff.

I am sure you remember the day of www.bigstar.com and other online stores where coupons we all (most) used coupons on every order. My average back in the day was around $9.45 per disk. I am sure you will find others on dvdtalk that were even lower. I guess we will see. I can only hope for the best! :) |

It looks cheesy, but I like the fact that they take up less space.
|
Less height-wise....but even then, not by much. Won't save me any room..
|
Man, that looks awful.

Slimmer cases are cool. I'm sure they'll start using different ones eventually as there doesn't seem to be any consistancy with many dvd sets today.
Maybe all the studios could get together and start printing numbers on the spine .... :) |
