Weren't these against forum rules. And, unlike the "nice bargain" replies, sometimes large number of people need to add their own IBTL's.

Hey ...

It's Peep-n-Poop.

:D

I agree. Geoff has said several times that IBTL is just as bad as "nice bargain" but nothing has ever been done about it. I've never seen anyone warned for posting IBTL.

I really cannot understand the rationale of even posting IBTL. It adds nothing and shows the poster as being an inane moron. In a perfect world the mods would not have to say a word, but we all know there are more than enough morons to go around in this world. The best solution would be a strict stance resulting in a ban. Post IBTL and you are done here on DVD talk. Alot of times thats thats the only way things are accomplished when you have to go to extremes.

Call me stupid and I've been around here a long time but somebody tell me what IBTL stands for.

IBTL= In Before the Lock. People usually put them in threads they think will be closed or moved to be funny I suppose.

You guys need to get a sense of humor!

You're all so testy!

Hijack to talk about overquoting....

I'm not sure why this was bumped but I'd liked to post another plea for consideration when it comes to quoting.

There really is no need to repost huge amounts of dialogue; particularly on a one-page thread.

There are a few people doing it regularly and I think it comes down to plain laziness. It is not something I can see myself emailing a mod over (too petty!) but perhaps it is an issue they could take up on a case-by-case basis if they notice it.... and if they have a similar point of view!

Trimming the quote down to the salient point or even just referring to the poster by name if it was a recent post seems to me to be perfectly adequate to establish context. Anyone can scroll up if they are left in doubt.

Just about your first point about quoting, it should have its own thread...I hate it when someone quotes all of a persons post, just to speak to one part.

;)

Autotelik 04-10-01 05:43 PM

Just ignore the IBTL posts.

Bushdog 04-10-01 07:54 PM

I delete them when I see them, no questions asked.

This IBTL cracked me up so much. This guy ClarkKentKY has only been a member since april 2001, w/ 14 posts and he is already posting IBTL. New members must think using "IBTL" is common place on this board, that it is a requirement to make it part of their posting techniques. Oh well, this is an issue with no apparent solution.

J

Bushdog 04-13-01 03:05 PM

It isn't a big problem. We got rid of

Nice Bargain-rolleyes-

We should be able to get rid of this.

RandyC 04-13-01 03:51 PM

Bushdog, for my own reasons, I agree it's not a big problem. I can just ignore a pad.

But, it's not as easy as Nice Bargain as IBTL is used on other forums, so even newbies tend to do it.

wlcohen 04-14-01 04:19 PM

Someone explain to me in english the big problem with ibtl. I think it is sort of funny, doesn't waste my time, etc..

benedict 04-14-01 05:29 PM

IBTL and pads raise an article to the top for no good reason.

Some "sensible" articles are hijacked by padders having their own mini-conversations and, to be clear, I'm not talking about topic-drift.

Both simply make the board that little bit more difficult to use. Not the end of the world, agreed, but potentially irksome....
