Is Dark Mode Available?

Does DVDTalk provide for a dark background with light colored text? This is much easier on the eyes particularly at night when they're tired. Many other websites offer this setting.

Nope.

So I created my own thanks to browser addon Stylus and knowing how to code css.

I haven't finished it up yet, but most things have been restyled. I'll restyle my account name up in the top right to be more readable later.

Many Thanks! That browser add-on worked for me in Firefox across all websites I've visited since installation.

I like the Dark Reader extension in Chrome. I think it's available in the new Edge as well. It's a godsend for me working at home because my home office is a lot lower light level than my company's office and the white background on websites was killing my eyes. Works just fine with DT.

Don't want to get anyone's hopes up, but there's some potential movement on this.

Is this still not an option?

We are looking at an approximate May release

It's launching on our auto division on May 9th. A little bad news, but also good news: since it is exclusive to patch level 5 and we're on PL2, we can't use it (we can't upgrade without completely breaking the editorial side). But what I'm going to do is request tech to take the format of the applied dark mode and translate it into a forum skin for us.

Re: Is Dark Mode Available?

ok, that technical stuff sounds perfectly valid :)

thanks for the update

I'm using a Chrome extension that is working pretty well for Dark Mode. I have it setup for this site only.

Re: Is Dark Mode Available?

I do some browsing on my work computer so I can’t have too many extensions on Chrome.
But the white really stands out as most of my other pages are dark.

Dark Mode was rolled onto the first site yesterday. Here are some screenshots:

When is it coming here? And is it only for the mobile version? Because I want it on my PC.

There’s a Ford forum? Those poor souls.

But glad to see the tech is working. Will be glad to see it here.

I do not know. And yes, only for mobile. Why they decided to pursue that and not desktop, I have no idea. Personally, I think it's stupid and I'd ALSO like it on my PC. I was not involved in the planning and design, however, I was just one of the people hounding the larger tech team to go forward with it.

It's all about the goddamned phones these days, to hell with computers. Don't they realize it's NOT all about the phones for US, the people who use this site? Granted, there are a lot of folks who access this site on their phones, but there are just as many people who access this site on their home computers. I access DVD Talk on my tablet at work, but when I'm at home, it's ALWAYS on my PC.

I did a mock up in the past asking for a dark theme back in 2018: https://forum.dvdtalk.com/forum-feed...l

I wonder what the numbers are, mobile vs PC. Personally, I haven’t used a PC in almost 10 years.

I do almost all my browsing on my iPhone nowadays. I make sure to get a model with a big screen.

T-bone22 05-12-22 01:18 PM

Re: Is Dark Mode Available?

I can’t imagine doing all my browsing on a phone. Blech. I only browse on my phone when I’m out and about away from my PC or tablet. And I hate the DVDTalk mobile version… I always force the desktop version.

I only browse on my phone when I am out and about and killing time. I pretty much hate web browsing on my phone.

If I'm at home or at work, it's on PC.
