Videos vanish when clicked on

For a week, perhaps 2, every time I click on someone's video in this forum, the video vanishes, replaced with white.....nothing. The video never does play. This is the latest video to do that for me:

https://forum.dvdtalk.com/other-talk...l#post13742138

Actually I clicked on Post #766 assuming it would link to that video, instead the link goes to #762...

Using an older computer (3.5ghz P4 Prescott 64-bit, 4gb memory, Windows 7 64-bit, Firefox 76.0.1)

It would be kind of nice to watch videos here, I always used to be able to. Did the forum software update recently?

Unfortunately, this is out of DVD Talk's hands. :( YouTube embeds are just an iframe to www.youtube.com. Everything that happens within that iframe -- the preview graphic with the 'play' button, the video that's supposed to play when you click it, etc. -- is all on YouTube. If the YouTube video plays when you go to www.youtube.com directly, my guess is that the forum + YouTube in one tab requires more resources than are available.

The only thing we'd be able to control is the embed code itself, but it looks pretty vanilla to my eyes. Nothing weird or broken or crazy.

Do you have more luck if you try a different web browser?

I had no problem with the video playing on Chrome.

I can watch videos at YouTube, but I can't watch them here.

Just tried Pale Moon, I can watch them on PM, but they disappear (replaced with white nothing) on FF.

I won't have Chrome on my computer.

Fwiw, they’re playing fine for me on iOS Safari.

BTW, these appear to be Twitter videos.

Twitter videos do not work from posts, those stopped working a while ago (at least for me). You have to go to the twitter link to view them. And this place (at least the politics forum) has become the twitter retweet dump bin, ugh.

They work fine in iOS Safari right now. But I think there was a short time period recently where I had to open twitter for them to work.

You can try Edge. It's MS's newer browser. It's based on Chromium, but they strip out all/most of Google's tracking stuff. I've had a very good experience with it so far, though I have no idea if it'll work on your older PC.

Just watched a Youtube video in OT, played just fine. Twitter videos just disappear.

That's interesting, because when I go there, there's nothing. Just a big white space.
I think firefox has a lot of anti cookie tracking going on that can screw things up. I had to turn off enhanced cookie tracking for this site to get twitter embeds to work at all with firefox. Most of them do now, every now and then I'll get a video that will refuse to play embeded, and will always launch a new window. Not sure what the deal is with that.

Try turning this firefox option off and see if that helps:

It has something to do with the way AME is embedding the Twitter iframe. Here are the browser Console errors that are thrown when the play video button is clicked:

Code:

The SecurityError is what is causing the problem. This is something specific to the way AME is embedding the iframe on this forum. I have my own Twitter embed BBcode on my own vBulletin forum, and I tested this, and it plays the video from this tweet without issue.

Edit: Looks like this issue is specific to Firefox, as reported earlier in this thread.

That seems to have solved the problem, it's a shame I have to disable that here just for Twitter videos.

Thanks for your help! ;)
