Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread

I'd like the forum jump option at the bottom of the page to act like the old version of the site. If you're in the other forum reading a thread and you get to the end of it and want to go back to the other forum, you pull the drop down and if you select other forum, it doesn't go back. You can jump to any other forum, but not the one in which you are reading a thread. There used to be a "Go" button that would allow you to go back to the forum you were in when you clicked the thread you were reading.

I don't see the ads plastered everywhere when I'm logged into my account and ready to post. I do see them everywhere if I'm not logged in. I mean everywhere. It's actually slowing my chrome browser down significantly. So you're still seeing ads if you're logged in?

Oh yeah. It's basically like it was before if you're not logged in. The right side is a giant banner ad and there are box ads between posts in every thread I enter. Maybe the setup is different for Admins?

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread

Used the mobile site a little bit last night. When I clicked on a thread it does not take me back to the first new replay/unread post. I have to click the last page link and find the where I left off.

Bad forum redesigns can kill a sites community. I've seen it happen before.

I don't care for the infinite scrolling in long threads.

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread

For the most part, for me, doesn't seem as bad as others see. I'm using a Chromebook, for reference. I like having forum jump menus at the top and bottom.

Lately, when I finished a thread, it would not "mark it as read" (i.e. unbold thread title). I was hoping the upgrade would fix it, but still the same. Maybe just me?

I don't use the mobile version and am not cool with the increased number of ads making browsing and posting so tedious.

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread

There needs to be a quick jump at the top of the forum page. I hate having to scroll to the bottom or using that forum selector at the top.

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread

Suggestion on formatting. Maybe reduce the column sizes for Replies, Last Post, and Views to allow for more room for Thread title so it doesn't drop to a 2nd line?

Working on it. I handle the reviews as well and we knew the backend would mess up (I talked to the reviewers about it), but the text disappearing was a surprise.

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread

Lots of justified negativity in this thread. With that said, I'll throw in a couple of positive comments:
  • I like the somewhat cleaner/flatter aesthetic.
  • I like the clearer division of sticky threads and normal threads.

That's about all I can say that's very positive.
  • Registered users should see significantly fewer and less intrusively-placed ads than unregistered users. Registered users are the ones providing content in the forums that may drive unregistered users here. Let the lurkers pay the higher advertisement tax.
  • Registered users should have the option to pay a fee for an ad-free site that doesn't have jacked up formatting.

It appears that you are using the desktop version on your mobile device. While this is technically usable, it is not optimized or supported and it's encouraged you use the mobile view (scroll to the bottom of the main forum index)

FYI This thread alone is now blocking 17 ads when I enter it. Trump thread blocks 19

Another site I used to frequent did that, but at least they gave you the option of closing that space once you're logged in. Just having it there without the ability to do anything about it is the worst possible thing you could've done for DVD Talk. WTF is 3" of white space? Just leave the ads at the top where they used to be, this just looks dumb as shit.
Tech is working on fixing that. In the meantime, try bypassing your cache. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipe...ass_your_cache

I had no problems with this. Try bypassing your cache and let me know if that fixes it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipe...ass_your_cache

Is anyone else having this problem?

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread

Any way to get rid of the footer bar at the bottom of the page (the thing that allows you to navigate pages, jump, etc)?
My notebooks resolution is 1366 x 768, and that footer takes away from my limited screen real estate and with the white-space on the right - it really makes me feel even more claustrophobic.

Are you using the desktop or mobile version of the site?

That is the standard layout for all VB sites. They have always been on the right. What's your device, browser, and are you in desktop or mobile skin?

A lot of people use their home computers to access this site, you CAN'T leave them behind, they'll just stop coming here.

Still looks dumb as shit, you're already losing users.
This issue has been reported to tech and they're working on it. In the meantime, try bypassing your cache: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipe...ass_your_cache
