Re: Admin says changes coming to DVDTalk

That’s not a bad idea. The same 5 or 7 people make the place almost unreadable. And everyone who engages leaves the conversation tedious and very easy to click away from.

Same thing happened in the movie forum over the years. But after a few months those people were banned and then it goes back to being good discussion.

Remember the guy who was obsessed with saying bad things about Christophor Nolan? That’s kind of what’s happening in the political forum.

I think that guy is still a member.

I guess I see the point. Definitely close the politics forum. This is out of control!!!!

That exchange is pretty tame compared to most of the nonsense that gets spewed in there.

I agree, it gets pretty nasty by both sides in there. Closing it would not be a bad thing.

I love the politics forum. It’s a wonder to behold. It gets crazy. But what is wrong with crazy things?

Close it? Just avoid it if you don’t like it, but not much else has any importance at this site anymore.

I don't usually venture into the Political forum. But if closes down, then a lot of that crap will begin to spill over into other forums worse that it does now.

Sadly the first indication leads me to believe they are going to attempt to solve this as a rules problem rather than what it is; a problem with a handful of posters.

Re: Admin says changes coming to DVDTalk

Eh, many here are jerks from time to time, including myself. Forum anonymity breeds it.

Some are jerks most of the time, so the choice becomes, do you leave the party because a few jerks make it miserable, try to ignore them, or try to kick the jerks out?

If click addiction wasn’t so pernicious I’d walk away from the politics forum, but there are a few insightful people whose opinions I find worth hearing ...

To my mind, it's both. Recognize how the current rules are inadequate and/or being circumvented/abused, and adjust them accordingly. If someone's dancing just inside the rules but is an endless source of trouble, don't give his/her a pass just because it's technically correct, but also ensure that any action that's taken isn't seen as vindictive or just a retaliation.

Re: Admin says changes coming to DVDTalk

Rather than complain in advance before even seeing upcoming policy changes, why not stay out of the way and let the admins and mods do their work?

And if the policy changes involve fair application of fair rules, who would possibly object to that?

the New Rules:
1. People who are “endless sources of trouble” will be dealt with.
2. Anyone less than hard left progressive is heretofore determined to be an “endless source of trouble”.

Probably.

And that is probably true as well.

I know it should be easy to stay out of there but...sometimes you just can't help yourself.
