I don't think HDTalk.com has been taken except to reference DVDTalk.com, I believe it would also be a more accurate reflection of who we are now.

Re: Why not just fix the site?

Another forum I used to frequent had a similar problem with updating their site and managed to successfully update and retain all of the user data (boards, posts, user account info/post counts) in the process. Of course, they're Invision, not vBulletin, and they chose to invest in the future.

That domain is taken.

Speaking of HD I think dvdtalk should switch forums around. Put HD Talk first and DVD Talk second.

Taken by who? When I try to go to hdtalk.com or www.hdtalk.com, it goes nowhere, blank page.

It looks like Internet Marketing Solutions of Nevada, Inc. registered it.

Re: Why not just fix the site?

An example of something to fix is a video ad (disabled automatically by my Safari browser) that keeps sending the page I'm reading back to the top. It's been popping up and ruining my visit to this site all day today.

Re: Why not just fix the site?

Doing some further checking, DVDTalk.com is also registered to Internet Marketing Solutions of Nevada, Inc. I found some indications that HDTalk.com once redirected to DVDtalk.com.

Someone might have been thinking of future-proofing.

Last I remember, HDTalk was a redirect to DVDTalk. Surprised now that it is not.

Name change, not likely. Change a domain and all of a sudden nobody knows where to find you (including google). It's like making a new site. And having a site name that doesn't match the domain is not good either.

But yes, we will upgrade the software. We have some new photo uploading widgets to get on here. ETA is 2018.

There is a support thread where you can ad this ad and it'll get sent to our ad ops people.

Instead of removing these blank threads, can you alert us in this thread or send one of us a PM? It will help us to have a live example so we can take it to our tech team.

I hear ya but a long standing announcement before making a name change would definitely remedy that for current users - keep a redirect up for the old domain obviously and have something advising the new site name on the home page (even a "Formally..." under the new site name logo).

I think a new site name is really needed, doesn't even have to have a similar name but I get why you would want to keep "Talk" as part of the name.

Re: Why not just fix the site?

^ I agree with the announcements, the redirect, and any other references to DVDTalk that would be necessary to acclimate everyone to the new name. Maybe even spend a couple of $$ to buy that HDTalk.com name if necessary (although that will probably never happen). We don't want this site to die, but it sure would be nice to be able to upgrade from DVDs (even if I do still have a buttload of them).

It's better now. I think it may just have been the older Trump thread that's now closed.

The real issue is, guys, we have years and years of Google juice at this domain. If we were to change it, we'd start from scratch. No can do.

So you're saying that this google juice is what's paying the bills? Then how about spent a little of that google juice on a upgraded forum to maintain your users happier? After all it was the users that brought dvdtalk to that level.

Give a little something...get back a lot.

What do you want? This forum is on our most recent software. The only newer stuff is new gallery and photo uploader tools, which are coming in 2018.

What I would want and like:

-New DVD Talk logo, something cool with a blu ray symbol thrown in there.
-Re-order of forums, making HD/Blu on top and DVD last being HD is in and DVD is out.
-A dark theme like youtube's. Or a tech/modern theme, something nice and curvy that will add a sophisticated look compared to this old default. I'm all for simplicity and if it ain't broken don't fix it, but shit man I think a new look might help bring growth and interest.
-GIF avatars for everyone!
