Does anyone else with Chrome get this message, and is there a workaround?

I see something like this on Chrome when I embed tweets too, but on if I click on the "preview post" button to make sure it works. If I actually just post it, it works fine. Strange, for sure.

Everyone seems to be having issues with Twitter embedding as of the past 2 days. Anyone on the tech side knows why?

Is there a particular subforum or thread having the issue? I have a two possible theories.

The politic forum, especifically, the Trump thread part 2. It seems we can't use the embed codes from Twitter (or Youtube) to post the tweets (or videos) like we used to.

OK, so this is the result of me turning of HTML, which I did after consulting with tech. HTML opens the site to vulnerabilities, so I turned it off. BUT if you click the "Insert Link" button on the text editor, stuff should post with no problem:

Thanks for the explanation and advice. I imagine it will be the same for Youtube videos and other things that used to ember using HTML, right?

That is correct, yes.

Mine are the same, but they won't show.

New links should work, but I will have tech see if they can retroactively get the old ones working. https://www.dvdtalk.com/

Is it cool to bump this? For the past week(ish?) I haven't been able to see any twitter links. If I quote the post they're in they show up (which is kinda how I know they're there). I'm using Vivaldi - which has worked just lovely for years. On Firefox they work, but Firefox is not my preferred browser (just in case someone was going to suggest I use Firefox instead).

Tried it, really didn't like it at all.

I've got Firefox open now just to follow the Political Forum posts. Sure, that works, but it doesn't seem like the preferred solution.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

Welp, now I'm not seeing twitter posts on Firefox.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

I’ve been seeing issues to if copying the Twitter link from the app… it is no longer “twitter” it is “x” so the embeds don’t work.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

I have to turn off the Duck Duck Go extension for this site for the Twitter embeds to show up.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

Now whenever I post a Twitter link from an iPad, it somes through as a website address link instead of a Tweet. But the same link gets posted as a Tweet if I post the same link using my Samsung Internet browser on my phone. It's weird.

I see nothing from the link, above, when viewing my own post.

Now I am going to post that exact same link from my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

The difference in those two posts is one is “x.com” and the other is “Twitter.com”. The forum doesn’t seem recognize embeds for “x.com”. This is what I mentioned the other day as an issue.

Oh, we just have to replace “x” with “twitter”?

It worked, though oddly it didn’t work in the post preview.

Mine is twitter.com, but doesn't show up.

That isn't the issue I'm referring to. That is a whole nother thing that has been going on for months with no fix.

That tweet seems to have been deleted. I get a "Hmm...this page doesn’t exist. Try searching for something else." message if I copy & paste it into my browser, which is not the case for most of the other examples in this thread.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

Just my opinion, but given Twitter/X's continued spiral toward uselessness, it doesn't seem worth it for IB to spend any effort trying to fix Twitter embeds. What might work today could break again tomorrow.

I recall it being mentioned, but I was still usually able to see my own links. That is no longer the case.

Yes, it looks like they've deleted the post, for some reason.

You aren't using the DuckDuckGo extension (or similar) are you? That's exactly what I see without disabling it. Disabled, the tweet comes right up.

davidh777 08-24-23 01:14 PM

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

That’s what I see in my own twitter-embed post immediately afterward. If I leave and re-enter the thread, then the tweet displays.

Not to dissuade your efforts, but this problem started long before the "X" cutover - as mentioned above.

I don't, and when I saw your earlier comment about it I tried to think if I had something in the background that might cause it. But since it worked on Firefox until recently - and I haven't changed anything - I don't think it's my system. Good tip though!

Some of the stuff is just cookies-related. We always recommend people accept all cookies. I knew people don't like that and everyone has their right to privacy, but that's the solution most of the time for this specific issue.

Bronkster 08-24-23 04:15 PM
