Thought of a good use of this. Take, for example, the OJ Simpson thread or something. The wiki can be used to highlight key updates for example:
OJ suspected in Murder <link to post> OJ being chased by police <link to post> OJ trial to start <link to post> OJ found not guilty <link to post> OJ Arrested again <link to post> OJ found guilty - prison <link to post> OJ released from prison <link to post> OJ found dead <link to post> Fred Goldman arrested for OJ's Death <link to post> Trump Pardons Fred Goldman <link to post> etc.. For those long threads.. |
Re: The Wikipost intro thread
Hey, is there a feature to automatically "expire" posts. This would be so helpful for posting in threads that have Blu-ray and DVD deals. This site works on a lot of deal-related and time-contingent posts, and having the ability to just create a post, then set an expire date (if we knew it or went by the ad we saw) would be fantastic.

Re: The Wikipost intro thread
Interesting concept. I look forward to seeing it in action...
|
Re: The Wikipost intro thread
Would "expiration" mean automatic deletion? I could see that causing confusion if something disappeared midstream from a conversation.

Re: The Wikipost intro thread
Looks like normal users can now start editing wikiposts. :)

Re: The Wikipost intro thread
You can also add them to already existing threads.. as I did with this one:
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/other-talk/...ry-thread.html I just did it as a test.. I won't be sad if it's removed. Overall I think will be a nice feature. |
Re: The Wikipost intro thread
So DVDtalk is still behind the basic standard?
Seriously... get your shit together. There are people with less resources making better updates to their own sites than DVDtalk does to itself. |
Re: The Wikipost intro thread
Is this going to preface every wiki post title? "DVD Talk Forum Thread Wiki:"
As in: "DVD Talk Forum Thread Wiki: The Wikipost intro thread" "DVD Talk Forum Thread Wiki: Zod's feelgood obituary thread" |

for mobile, the entire wiki post doesn't show at all (and the small blue 'wiki' icon doesn't appear in the threads list). |
Re: The Wikipost intro thread
Wikis are not enabled for mobile in any way right now, but they will be.

Re: The Wikipost intro thread
Meh...this might be helpful for threads with a small number of pages, but for large threads, I think most of us just go to the most-recent posts for "new info"...I don't see myself going to both the first and last pages of a thread just to see "what's new."

Re: The Wikipost intro thread
How do you create Wiki Posts? I don't see an option in New Thread Posts.
|
Re: The Wikipost intro thread
Click on "Thread Tools" at the top of any thread that doesn't already have a Wiki, and there should be an option for "Create a Wikipost"

Edit to add: Worked on IE. |

Trevor,
We are working on the issue on Safari. We need some extra information so that we can reproduce this error. 1 - Which operating system are you using? 2 - Are you using a Mac desktop or a tablet or mobile device? 3 - Do you use the mobile version of the site? Or the desktop version? 4 - If possible, could you provide us with some pictures of this errors? We will try to solve this as soon as possible. Thank you! iPad Desktop version Database Error Database error The DVD Talk Forum database has encountered a problem. Re: The Wikipost intro thread
So I guess there is no fix for this?
Some more info on the problem: Quote: Originally Posted by Adam Tyner View Post Getting a database error when I try to add a Wikipost, but: http://brickseek.com/target-inventor...ku=207-29-0180 I think I've figured out that it's adding a link to the wiki that gives that error. I removed the http and added a space so it's not a link to force it to work, fwiw. Edit to add: more experimentation, was able to remove the spaces to make it a link, appears to be just the "http://" that causes the wiki error |
