Username change?

Re: Username change?

We generally don't do name changes except for extremely rare circumstances. If it's for cosmetic reasons the answer is going to be no. If there are other extenuating circumstances, you can PM one of the mods or me.

I think we should allow the name change. Otherwise I confuse him with kvrdave.

I support this only if said name would be "xXal0pec1a420Xx"

Re: Username change?

I wanted to be called hanshotfirst1138 originally, if I remember correctly, the forum software was such that that username couldn't be used, lately I've seen some member with rather long names, was my not allowed because of the number of numbers in it? Is it still not? I'm just kind of curious.

I feel the same about my own name, but I don't know what goes on in mods' neck of the wood either. Maybe changing a username will cause them lots of problems on their end.

The policy for at least a decade features in the FAQ sticky which I'll reproduce below:

As a result of an increased volume in name change requests and the inherent confusion caused by name changes, we're going to be putting some restrictions on name change requests from now on.

Name changes are fine (as long as they aren't too frequent) up until you reach the 1,000 post mark. At that point, you have likely become fairly well known in the forums you regularly participate in, and requests will then be considered on a case by case basis.

ie: We can understand that a name like 'MasterBaiter" might have been funny at one time, but may no longer be how you want to be seen on the forum. However, if you're a regular poster, going from "Chasing Amy" to "Run Lola Run" won't be an option anymore. So it's not a complete end to changes, but because of the confusion these things cause, you'll need to give us a good reason before we make a change from now on.

Changes that are mostly cosmetic (case, spacing) will still be allowed

Also, any major name change will now require that you put "formerly known as [old name]" in your Location field for two weeks.

I realize that this might be a little upsetting to some, but please try to understand that with as many active members as we have, it's already hard enough to keep track of who said what in the past. Throwing name changes into the mix just makes it next to impossible.

Thank you for your understanding.

This being said, there may have been a change in focus* further to the one-off opportunity allowed for bulk name changes partway through this year.

That bulk-change opportunity itself demonstrated some unexpected profile issues mostly arising from long names/names including non-standard characters

* Additional clarification would be something for an admin to comment upon, since admins are the ones that actually do the changing - after it has been agreed that a change is within the rules/acceptable.

Hmm. Interesting. Hey, it's up to the mods, it's their forum, and their reasoning is solid. Though to be fair, the change I'm requesting is minor and cosmetic, though I don't know it's possible or not. Anyway, thanks. Should read the rules more thoroughly, I know.

Just to confirm that the admins are now looking into this with an answer expected within the folllowing few days.

PS) admins/mods have no claim to ownership.... probably more akin to stewards. Or monkey-butlers, if you will ;)

han's name has been changed.

As already stated, Bald will remain the same, mainly for the reasons benedict outlined.
