This whole forum would be hilarious lately, if I didn't care about it so much.

The latest tranche of member-requested changes is now in place.
By way of a friendly reminder, if we could keep this focussed on those seeking changes while remembering the (minimum) requirement in my initial post:<blockquote>"for a couple of months you will need to include in the Location field (a message) along the lines of "formerly known as ..."</blockquote>Anyone minded to keep the "formerly known as" message in for longer is welcome so to do.
Merci!

Over the years I've spent hours debating just that in my mind. Now I won't be able to sleep tonight.
I keep hoping that the storm will blow over, but fear we're almost past the event horizon.

This change is really going to screw with people that have been reading the forum for years. I would strongly recommend keeping the "formerly known as" tag under the new name. I've been reading the forum since it first opened and these new user names already seem strange and foreign.
On the bright side, it might dupe some people into believing there is new blood on the forum.

How do these name changes effect people on Ignore Lists? Is Spottedfeather in for a rude awakening?

I imagine ignore lists are tied to a unique userid in the database, and not to a username. But I've never run a vBulletin board, so I don't know for sure.

I want to be known as "Solid Snake" now. There was a poster here by that name but that **** is inactive. Delete his ass and give me the fucking name. Please and thank you.

This change is really going to screw with people that have been reading the forum for years. I would strongly recommend keeping the "formerly known as" tag under the new name. I've been reading the forum since it first opened and these new user names already seem strange and foreign.
Paul/IBobi has recently pointed out that, on other forums, a three month requirement is often in place. For a wholesale change like this one that should perhaps be doubled...
So, with due deference to the management steer, I'll be visibly editing those earlier posts of mine to reflect the increased requirement and including a reminder in the closing post when I summarise all the switches and lock the thread. Incidentally, it is highly likely that someone will be asked to check this from time to time - I'm sure there's a newbie mod who can be allotted that plum role - which means that sneakily removing the note is not to be advised (as if anyone would do THAT!).
Methinks, too, henceforth I should save enacting each day's changes to the evening (GMT) in order that folk have a chance to rethink. So those involved know, currently one or two requests remain in my "to review" list.
