Closing Account

How do you close an account ? I wasn't aware that having more than one was against the rules and want to get rid of my newer account.

benedict 02-15-11 02:11 AM

Re: Closing Account

The rule about multiple accounts is outlined here where, among other things, it is written:<blockquote><font color=blue>ABSOLUTELY NO:[...]
• Registering more than one account. If you share a connection, please contact a moderator/administrator before signing up another account or BOTH will be terminated. NOTE: If you sign up a new account during a suspension you will be banned and not allowed to sign up for an account again.</font></blockquote>Please PM an admin and explain how your multiple account situation occurred and a decision can then be made as to the way forward.

At the same time, it would also be worthwhile confirming that you've now read and understood all of the rules.

Thank you.

I have read the rules now and want to delete the newer account, but don't know how. I sent a PM to an admin, but haven't received a reply.

I deactivated your 2nd account and reinstated your original one.

Re: Closing Account

Is it possible to close an account ? I have been harassed and attacked for the last time. There was a topic that asked what current shows you don't watch and why you don't watch them. I said what shows I didn't watch, but when I explained why, I was jumped on just because I don't go along with what everybody else says is cool to watch. I like what I like and said so. I don't see how what I say is that important to anyone but myself. Is it possible to close an account because of harassment ?

Re: Closing Account

I am taking it that you actually want your own account closed rather than that of the perceived attacker/harrasser... whom I would also assume that you have reported should it be the case that you genuinely consider that they have broken the letter or the spirit of the DVDTalk.com forum rules.

Setting aside matters of

<li><A HREF="http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/200410/the-thick-skinned" target="_blank" style="text-decoration:none">epidermal girth</a>, or<li>the oft-cited software facility to ignore members one deems problematic</li><br>methinks the easiest way to avoid this situation is simply not to read the forums.

In spite of rumours to the contrary, forum-participation isn't obligatory and anyone is free voluntarily to take an indefinite sabbatical whensoever he/she chooses.

Very occasionally we have closed down an account following a request of this kind.

Quite often the same disillusioned member subsequently begged to be let back in!

As a consequence, at least from a (long-suffering) mod's perspective, it is far preferable for fellow-members simply to exercise a modicum of self-restraint and to auto-enforce any departure be it of a temporary or a permanent nature.

Hey Spottedfeather, I don't agree with many of your opinions, but you are still part of our Otter family and I'd be sad if you were gone. If we all agreed with each other it'd be an insufferable forum to visit; so you are part of what makes this place so great. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Reported...and added to the ignore list so I don't have to listen to any more of your uniformed, poorly thought out, nonsensical, twisted crap.

Definitely. The best part is all the links provided. Benedict put a great deal of time and thought into that response and it's right on the money.

I've always been told that girth is better than length, so I agree.

I'd also like to point out Spottedfeather's signature:

I believe that this thread has now more than served its purpose...

Spottedfeather: it seems to me that IGNORE is primarily a private function. Announcing each person that you <A HREF="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plonk_(Usenet)" target="_blank" style="text-decoration:none">plonk</a> into your list kind of defeats your argument that you are the innocent/injured party here. Please consider if/how you wish to continue/contribute here and note the dictum:<blockquote>"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem".</blockquote>Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
