Can't access DVDtalk from laptop

In mid-December, for some reason, each time I tried to load the DVDtalk site I got an error message saying that I couldn't. The message mentioned firewall settings, no internet access etc. as possible reasons why I couldn't get on the site. I tried with Explorer and Firefox and still nothing.

I reformated my laptop this week thinking I had a virus or something and STILL I can't load DVDtalk. All other sites online are fine. Just DVDtalk.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

When was the last time you rebooted your modem/router? If it's been a while, try that first.

Are you using Windows? What happens when you drop to a command line and type:

Code:

nslookup forum.dvdtalk.com
For instance, I get:

Code:

C:\Users\adam>nslookup forum.dvdtalk.com
Server:  vip01spbgsc.spbg.sc.charter.com
Address:  24.178.162.3

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    www.dvdtalk.com
Address:  98.158.194.154
Aliases:  forum.dvdtalk.com

I'm just wondering if the problem is that your network connection to dvdtalk.com is failing or if the hostname won't resolve, period.

Nope, reseting the modem didn't do anything. I turned it off, unplugged it, etc.

Doing nslookup doesn't display the results on screen fast enough for me to read them unless I am doing them wrong.

I AM on DVDtalk now from my laptop using a wi-fi connection at a coffee shop so I suppose it isn't the lappy itself.

Run "cmd" and then do an nslookup.

It sounds like it's your connection at home.

I get the same thing you go when I run it here from the coffee shop but it says SERVER: Unknown.

So, anyway to fix it if it is my home connection with the modem?

Anybody with any ideas? I have tried restarting the modem but still can't get on DVDtalk at all.

I need my Other fix, man.

Sounds like you don't have DNS working.

What do you get when you type

http://98.158.194.154

into the URL bar?

Yeah, if it's a persistent problem -- lasts for days, even after restarting -- I'd say a DNS hiccup from your ISP is the likely culprit. Try http://www.opendns.com/start/

X, when I type that in it brings me to the main page but all images can't be seen and when I click onto any link it gives me the Cannot Connect message.

Adam, I will try that.

DNS is definitely the problem then...your connection doesn't know how to resolve www.dvdtalk.com into an IP address. Switching to OpenDNS should clear that up for you.

Open DNS worked. Thanks all.
