How are number of views for threads calculated?

Is it unique IPs?

If one visits the same thread multiple times in a day does it count multiple times?

Once a day for a week does it get counted each day?

Logging out and logging back in have any effect?

I'm not asking to find out how to increase views, but am curious as to how many people really visit these threads. For example, if I determine that the weekly threads I create are the same 50 people visiting daily for a week, then maybe we don't need to waste time making them.

Count me in for a visit

I wonder how it counts too. There were 22 visits when I first saw the thread on the main page. I clicked it, went back out and the count is still 22.

Hi Tom!

I think the view numbers are only updated once per hour or something, but definitely not instantaneously. I've looked into new threads with only one view and did not see the total update even after refreshing and wandering in and out for awhile.

I believe that's correct. However it seems that unique user views are updated immediately while all views regardless of uniqueness are updated after a time interval. This is just from my observation though, the unique views may not be updated immediately, I'll have to look into it.

Not important if you're busy, but was still curious.

If I visit the same thread thrice a day for ten days, do I count as 1? 10? or 30?

It's counted as 30. It's just deceptive because the count doesn't increment immediately.

does hitting refresh count as a new view?

What if I turn my eyes away from the monitor and then look back? Does that count?

I always pictured your posts as coming from a drunk with double vision, so your views count as two I imagine.

I can't believe how accurate your vision of me is!

Thanks for reinforcing the visual. Now I'll probably dream about you. :gah:
