What are you looking at? The post is down and to the left.

What's all this then?

Re: What's with the automatic titles in posts?

This is so silly.

#1.) It's not that big of a deal. Yeah, it's dumb, but for those complaining about clutter...don't look at it. It's on the far right of the post. It's making a mountain out of a molehill.

#2.) On the flipside, it seems really, really silly to implement something like this to artificially create more Google hits on a search.

Code:
<!-- icon and title -->
<div class="smallfont">

	<div align="right"><!-- google_ad_section_start -->.egnahc reaf eW<!-- google_ad_section_end --></div>
</div>
<hr size="1" style="color:#D1D1E1; background-color:#D1D1E1" />
<!-- / icon and title -->
The hr in every post is tacky. How about underlining the titles instead?

Also, why the nested divs? <div class="posttitle"> would be more efficient and would let me have my own stylesheet to hide the damn things.

According to Google,
In order to properly implement this feature, you'll need to include a significant amount of content within the section targeting tags. Including insufficient content may result in less relevant ads or PSAs.
One-line titles don't seem like a significant amount of content.

Perhaps you should realize that this thread is responsible for it being on the far right of the post, unbolded, whereas initially it was a bold line at the start of every post. It's been much improved and less of an eyesore.

I agree that removing the hr tag and using a simple underline would be a great final step to de-cluttering, if possible.

If you hate these automatic titles, go to the feedback forum and say so!

Eh, I have to disagree. I think it is still a huge eyesore and a source for a vast amount of unneeded clutter. In some ways it is actually more distracting to me that it is right justified because my eyes want to see what is on the right side of the message. Changing it to the right and not bolding it may have appeased a few people, but IB is apparantly fine with not addressing the root cause of the negative feedback by just changing a couple things and think it's all ok now.

And I'm not just complaining for complaining sake. I do like the icon change for threads that you have posted in.

I couldn't disagree more. With clutter like this, the thing one can't do is not look at it. How can I not look at something that is right there in my face? It's incredibly annoying and it is not trivial to me.

If you click on the "go advanced" button on the bottom of the page, the titles return to being bold lines at the start of every post.

If we remove the hr, then the title inside the content box with no clear separation.

I don't see how including it in a div is more efficient. It would be more flexable, but it would be less efficient.

You guys are a walk in the park compared to some other communities. Believe it or not, I actually like the jokes. Only think that sucks about them is having to read 7 pages of jokes to find the on-topic posts. (And that only sucks when I'm strapped for time)

That's because the right aligning and unbolding was a template change. Since vB 3.8 was just released and 4.0 is soon to follow, We'd like to do the least number of template modifications as possible. Changing it there too would just be one more issue down the road.

But we said to put an under or bottom border just under the title text. That would provide clear separation. Some of us just don't think the hr bar needs to extend all the way across the screen. Leave it just under the length of the title text.

Damn straight.

I know I speak for most of us when I say you should put the title on a marquee scroll in every post, with the dancing bananas on either side as bookends.

That would rock!!!

IB-Dick - Just a suggestion... I realize you probably can't fully blend the text color because it might be perceived as deceitful by the search engines but how about changing the text color so that it's just slightly darker than the background - still visible but not standing out so much.

I don't think they need to be lighter or harder to read. They actually serve a mild purpose as they are. The HR is still silly though.

If they were worried about it being perceived as deceitful, they probably wouldn't have the same thing posted 22 times on one page.

How is that deceitful? This page is about "automatic titles in posts" so having that title in the contents 20 times is deceitful how? This is a setting that's turned on by default with vBulletin that was at some point turned off. It's not like this is the only site that does it and it's not like we're trying to rank for terms that aren't relevant to the content of the page.
