What is this "Top Selling Discs on Amazon" stuff?

All of a sudden this box at the very right appears when it was never there before and it distorts the whole screen using the scroll left and right on the bottom instead of fitting in one page.

Is this new and staying around?

Yeah, I really hate the horizontal scroll.

spainlinx0 09-23-08 04:45 PM

Doesn't affect my horizontal scroll.

Yeah, it seems to only affect some people (I talked to GizmoDVD and it doesn't affect his either).

Edit: BTW, I just checked using Firefox, and the scroll is on there as well... Maybe it's the computer monitor resolution? I have mine set to 1024 x 768.

thing is it never used to be a problem. if i deleted my cookies and logged off then it would be there as if i was a new user, when i logged back in, it was not an issue. now when i am logged in, it is there :(

It screws up your screen if you've got a low resolution. Bad move. Just another way for IB to make some more $

couldn't even be bothered to set it up on dvdtalk! they stole code from one of their other sites instead!

Might I suggest for those who don't block ads to add the host mention above to your hosts file to block it...

but, i am at my highest resolution 32 Bit, 1024x768 pixels. and i added the website to my block list and yet it doesn't block :(

kms_md 09-23-08 08:57 PM

yet another way to interfere with the dvdtalk user experience. it is quite a jarring change.

I think it has to do with the resolution, as I did not even realize it was there until I saw this thread! I'm set at 1920 x 1200 and everything is fine but if I change it to 1024 x 768 then I get the scroll.

They need to take in to consideration that not everybody uses a wide-screen monitor.

spainlinx0 09-24-08 08:18 AM

I'm on a 4:3 monitor at 1280x1024 and I don't get the scroll.

TheMovieman 09-24-08 09:03 AM

That's what I figured, but I'm not going to change it just for this forum since others don't have this problem.

Bronkster 09-24-08 10:15 AM

It's affecting my screen. I'm not liking it. Also don't like that I have to keep "doing things" here to keep from getting frustrated about all the "wonderful new enhancements and features".

Same here.

My biggest problem is its unappealing look with all the hyperlinks, bolding, underlining, slashed out prices, font size changes, and color changes. It just looks like a big, ugly, clusterfuck at the top of my screen.

Gizmo 09-24-08 04:51 PM

Ok, its affecting me now.

Grr.

Just checked my monitor settings:
1024 x 768 32bit

Kevin M. Dean 09-24-08 05:10 PM

Seems that 1152x846 is now the minimum size for this site now.

fumanstan 09-24-08 05:24 PM

I didn't even notice it and just looked now. I guess I don't look at the top info other then a few of the latest reviews that pop up.

No problems here, but i'm at 1440x900. I'm surprised people still have screens running 1024x768  Those are what, 15" LCD's or 17" CRT's? Yikes :p

I'm at work...I'm using a 14 year old desktop PC that shuts itself off every 64 minutes thanks to some "buldging capacitors" that they chose not to get fixed. My keyboard is yellowed from cigarette smoke from the mid 1980's and only one of the 8 USB ports (that some guy randomly installed the side of the tower) works. I sware if I licked the inside of my keyboard I would taste "The New Coke" from 1985 that someone spilled inside of it.

I crave a widescreen monitor here...crave.

WallyOPD 09-24-08 06:18 PM

I have the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of my screen but I honestly didn't even notice until I read this thread. I never look at the top of the page and the horizontal scroll hasn't affected my reading of the forums at all.

Spicollidriver1 09-24-08 08:00 PM

I find it annoying only because when I click something in the drop down sometimes it clicks twice and before it would be clicking nothing but now it clicks the review so then I have to go back and thats annoying

OldBoy 09-25-08 03:58 PM

so are we saying that this is here to stay and nothing will be done? just want to know...

Josh-da-man 09-25-08 08:12 PM

Hm.

It's showing up for me (using a 3:4 monitor at 800x600); getting a scrollbar at the bottom of the window but it's not effecting my layout at all. If it weren't for this thread, I probably wouldn't have noticed it for a several months!

OldBoy 09-26-08 01:19 PM

but see that is the thing, i haven't changed any setting on pc and i am pretty sure this just started happening.

can we eliminate that box to see if things go back to normal?

how exactly can i block this site using Vista? i put it in my "block" cookies list, but it still appears.

Jam Master Jay 09-26-08 09:18 PM

I think he means using a ad blocking add on with mozilla firefox

Same res here. Didn't change my experience. Top of the page looks off-kilter but I don't have to scroll.
