Can't post threads?

Let's see if this goes through. I can reply to threads, but get a network error when I try to post a new thread, after a very long wiat.

LorenzoL 09-10-08 09:24 PM

The same thing is happening to me too.

NoirFan 09-11-08 07:39 AM

Still can't post threads. What's the deal here?

Groucho 09-11-08 07:48 AM

If you can't post new threads, how do you explain this? :hscratch:

IB-Dick 09-11-08 11:39 AM

We're looking into the issue. Thanks for the heads up.

You think you have problems. I can't get the multi-quote feature to work.

IB-Dick 09-11-08 01:09 PM

Apparently smiley's aren't working either :(

We are pretty sure we know why it's taking a while to make a post. It should just be slower to make a post, not impossible to make a post. We're working on a work around, and will keep you informed on any progress.

This must be related to the Hadron collider.

My Other Self 09-11-08 04:29 PM

Never mind, seems alright now.

LorenzoL 09-11-08 06:05 PM

It still doesn't work for me. I can't create new threads.

Can you tell me when exactly this started?

LorenzoL 09-12-08 06:26 PM

I noticed it on Wednesday night and that's when I noticed this thread and posted my response. I just tried creating a thread right now, and it still doesn't work.

The weird part is that I can reply to existing threads...

IB-Dick 09-12-08 07:30 PM

Is it better now?

Trevor 09-12-08 08:27 PM

I can't reply to threads. (So why am I trying here...?)

Edit to add - Ok, obviously it is working now. But a few minutes ago I couldn't reply to another thread, got a board generated invalid security token error.

Thank you. It works now.

Anyone else having sign on issues? I sign into the site and it takes successfully but then redirects me right back to the sign on page - this happens both when initially signing in from the main page or when clicking on "Post reply" - I am only then allowed to post a reply\new thread if I refresh the page in full.

Huh? Can you go into this with some more detail?

I have the same issue from time to time i.e. I complete the sign-in process only to be returned to the sign-in page. I'd not thought of refreshing but usually just sign in a second time when it invariably "takes". I'd thought it was some kind of cookie issue (or maybe to do with the cache my "ISP" uses).

Rival11 09-18-08 04:43 PM

Seems like it's fixed now and I guess it would be kind of unfair to try and blame the site since I am using IE8 beta at the moment (and have been while experiencing sign on issues).

IB-Dick 09-18-08 05:14 PM

I understand now. Sounds like a cookie issue. Whenever you have problems like that try deleting your cookies.

I'll try deleting cookies but, although I could start a thread here in Feedback (which I deleted), these past few days I've found that I couldn't reply to a post in Music or send a PM from two separate platforms using a total of three different browsers. I received a proxy error at one location and a "cannot connect" or something similar from the other.

Most peculiar. We'll see what happens when I try sending this.

EDIT: Yep. Gone. I wonder what is special about Music/PM. Not tested this anywhere else.

benedict 01-28-14 03:28 AM

Re: Can't post threads?

Although I was able to start a new thread in Music (which I again deleted), when I tried to start with a more substantial post I again received the error message:

Cannot Connect
The proxy could not connect to the destination in time.
URL: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/newthread.p...ostthread&f=28
Surely it could not be a problem with including a quote from "Breakfast With Girls" in my prospective posts/PMs?

EDIT: Yes, having tested with and without, it is the fact of quote - although not to do with the original poster, per se.

Belay that! Tried to post the body of my piece in Music (without the original quote) and although it had worked in Feedback I got the error when I did it as a new post to the original Music thread. Next test could be a new thread in Music but with no quoting. Hmmm...

EDIT AGAIN: No, could not start the topic as a new thread in Music either with or without the [/B]quote. No idea why the "test" post worked there...

Curiouser and curiouser!

Re: Can't post threads?

Benedict: are you running any McAfee products for virus protection and the like? I suspect one of them is getting in the way. The software is probably trying to pre-fetch content to make sure it's safe, routing through McAfee's servers rather than connecting directly. When it has trouble successfully doing that, you see that error. That might also explain how erratic it is. Nosing around on Google, the only references I seem to see for that error are tied to McAfee.

benedict 01-28-14 03:30 PM

Thanks for the info :)

McAfee at the location from which I copied the message. I'll get back to you with the other error message.

EDIT:
Code:

This page can’t be displayed

•Make sure the web address http://forum.dvdtalk.com is correct.
•Look for the page with your search engine.
•Refresh the page in a few minutes.

At home I only have Avast unless I've been co-opted into a McAfee product when installing something else. I'll look into that and post again tomorrow sometime.

Re: Can't post threads?

The other error looks like a DNS issue. My first plan of attack would be to restart your router (I have trouble getting to certain sites that go away when I power-cycle my router, anyway), second would be resetting both modem/router, and third would be to change the DNS settings from your ISP to OpenDNS (or change them back if you're using OpenDNS).
