IB has heard the complaints loud and clear.
The roll-out of these ads was the result of a miscommunication between the ads department and tech. I apologize for the surprise.
According to the ads team, the contextual ad concept is still on the table but they are investigating ways to make it less intrusive. For now, the campaign has been discontinued and will be examined.

Contextual <a href="http://www.newother.com/other">ads</a> are <a href="http://www.amazon.com/review/R37W80FPEYQO39/xcr-20">bad</a> news. They cheapen <a href="http://glassyeyes.blogspot.com/">the site</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_(film)">piss off</a> readers and reviewers. The <a href="http://photos.ivillage.com/images/photos/resize/pp_Baby%20Photo%20Gallery_1152305917514_431365D.jpg">sad</a> thing is, they don't make all that much <a href="http://www.trump.com/default.asp">money</a> and are a pretty <a href="http://failblog.org/2008/07/31/shortcut-to-fail/">lame</a> form of advertising that requires no <a href="http://cottonandsand.com/sandandcotton/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/weird_science.jpg">creativity</a> or ingenuity.

Oh God, lucky for me I never saw these.
If the day ever comes that we have those ads everywhere here at DVDTalk, I'll leave and never come back, and I know for a fact I'm not the only one. If you bring those on, you'll destroy the site, period.
It's too bad that High Def Digest is owned by the same group.

Just saw a "fly-in" type ad (that must be closed by the user) on a DVD review. I guess IB is intent on sticking more ads in our faces one way or another. At least I can close those mofos.

New In-text adds
Has anyone else noticed the new hyperlinked in-text ads? It is a bit annoying when scrolling through a thread. Anytime my mouse gets near a double underlined word, I get a popup. Even the words New Thread are an ad as I write this message.

Actually, I discovered that it was some kind of virus/spyware in my computer that had attached itself to my IE7, and I started seeing that same ad on 95% of the sites I was going to. Another feature of the bug was I couldn't click on a link in a Yahoo search without it redirecting me to an unrelated site IT wanted me to go to, and when I finally got tired of it, it wouldn't let me go to Windows Update to hopefully reinstall IE7. It kept redirecting me to msn.com. I finally just reinstalled Windows altogether, as I had been long overdue to do anyway, and voila! No more penis ad.

I'm not seeing anything, but I'm running Firefox, and I have it so loaded up with security measures that it's probably not going to show up on my system.

I ran Adaware and got nothing.
It isn't a text popup really. Some words on the forum have double lines under them and if you hover the mouse over those words you get a little popup in-browser from a company called Content Link.

Well i am only seeing them on this forum now. The other forum i access at work has none of them. AdAware also did a clean sweep.
When i get home i will check on that computer which has better security than my crappy work network and see if it shows up here or on any other forum i frequent.

I'm seeing these ads as well. Both in Firefox and IE7 (the latter of which I never use). Seems to only be on this site, though. Nothing at other sites I visit daily.
oddly enough, at the same time, I noticed that iGoogle blows chunks now. Instead of displaying previous searches when I start to type something in the search bar, it shows me "most common searches" that contain the text I'm entering. ie:
I typed "dvdt" and got the following:
dvd talk - 12,000,000 results
dvdtimes - 73,000 results
dvdtown - 236,000 results
dvdtalk forum - 1,110,000 results
dvdtoavi - 1,980,000 results
etc.
lame.
