The Dark Knight - 9 threads on front page...

Can someone clean these up a bit? At current count, there are 9 threads about this movie on the front page of the movie forum.

Seeing as this movie is worlds better than any of the Star Wars prequels (and arguably better than the LOTR films), I say we don't have ENOUGH threads yet. ;)

Groucho 07-21-08 12:12 PM

ZOMG heath ledger died therefor BEST MOVIE EVER

Liver&Onions 07-21-08 12:29 PM

Tarantino 1000 pictures on the first page of Other. Can those be trimmed down too?

Perhaps we could have a sci-fi, fantasy, super-hero, and horror sub-forum, and toss the whole lot in there.

I bet an '80s time traveler would automatically make the assumption that that title was referring to a "Knight Rider" film. Then they'd see the poster and be like "Hey, that's a Batman movie".

Is this a good movie or something? ;)

And I bet that a time traveler from the 1890's would think it referred to a book about chess openings. Then he'd (because they didn't let women time travel back in those days) see it referred to moving pictures and sounds about a grown man that dresses like a bat, and he'd be like "Hey, that looks even better than a zoopraxiscope image of a horse galloping." Then he'd probably spread polio or typhus or something else dreadful around to those of us that haven't been immunized against it, and we'd wish that he'd just stayed home instead of time traveling to the year 2008 to inquire into the content of our many threads extolling the virtues of the latest summer blockbuster.

Still waiting for the "Movie with the best Batsuit" poll...

1,000 pictures in one thread, maybe.

Glad to see the mods take this forum seriously, though

9 is not enough. We need 10

The Antipodean 07-21-08 09:37 PM

Every time there's a popular movie that hits all the right geek criteria people start complaining there's too many threads. Give it a week or two and they'll die natural deaths.

They do take the forum seriously. They just don't take other things seriously.

Yup I agree. The batsuit question is actually a good one though. Honestly, I think the Burton Batman suit has looked the coolest.

I really don't see the problem. This happens any time there's a big movie, and it dies off after a couple of weeks.

Besides, I get a little annoyed that a thread titled "_____ Trailer Up" has to serve as the only thread for a movie (with no title change), so if you look at it later you have to wade through the anticipation and news pages to get to the reviews/impressions. Most of the TDK threads are different enough to stand alone, at least for a little while.

Agreed 100% on that! That can be quite annoying.

No problem. I only moderate what's in my jurisdiction. Sorry to tell you, movies and Other are not my area, so I am a normal joe like you there. Without the ego however.

Tarantino 07-22-08 01:03 PM

Scratch that, we're up to 11...

stingermck 07-22-08 01:13 PM

Yes can we get a title change to reflect the number of threads now? MMmmkkkay. Thanks!

It's great the mods are lighthearted and goof around with us commoners. There are too many forums where the mods have no sense of humor and have attitudes.

arminius 07-23-08 03:58 PM

Wait a minute, mods means moderators? I thought they were Who fans.

Tarantino 07-26-08 01:14 PM

Still 11...

Tarantino:

My personal view is that if I open a forum and see that the whole of the first page is showing threads with new/unread posts then I'll look at page two to check I've not missed anything. I do that regardless of the specific content of the page one threads. If I notice duplicates I'd usually use RTPTAM. If the mods agree - and think it worth the time and trouble - they'll merge.

Anyhoo, if you make a list of the threads - with names and linked URLs - and point out which are duplicates, I'll ask the Movie mods to comment here. However, I certainly cannot commit them to take any particular action in the forums that they spend some of their free time moderating.

As it happens, looking very quickly at the forum, the IMAX dupe aside, I had trouble seeing more than one or two threads* that might usefully have been merged: it is a big film and there are various aspects that people are choosing to discuss separately. As others have said, the hoo-ha will die down in a few weeks and no doubt normal service will be resumed....

* The Batman Begins v Dark Knight poll question might perhaps have been asked in the review thread. The cameo question perhaps could have been shoe-horned in somewhere else - although I'm not 100% sure where.

Edit: during a rare lull in Book Talk I took the time to merge a couple of IMDb-related "TDK" threads and two dealing with guesses re villains for the next film. I've also closed the first Box Office prediction thread, which was getting a little long, and re-labelled another one looking at the same topic as "Part Two".

Groucho 07-29-08 09:15 AM

When Star Wars was big we had a temporary sub-forum. I think that's appropriate here, especially since half the posts in any of the given threads are "Stop it with the god-damned Batman threads!"

I think you're confused. Al Gore hadn't even invented the internet yet when Star Wars was big.
