You can use the actual html img tags instead of the BBCode ones.

Default:

or download and use irfanview and then there's many, simple resizing options. it's free and a pretty useful tool

Both www.tinypic.com and www.imageshack.com offer many different sizing options when you host your picture with them. Both sites are free and don't require logging in or signing up for anything.

I use Microsoft Image Resizer. All you do is right click on a picture, and resize it.

If you use html to resize the image by pixels, is it still the same number of bytes? Sometimes people post images that only take a small amount of screen size, but still have 5Mb of data underneath that takes forever to load.

Yes. Netiquette dictates you resize the image itself before posing it. Using the height/width attributes of the img tag just does a quick-and-dirty resize in the browser. The entire image still has to be downloaded.

it's a powerful and feature rich open source image manipulation program...

scaling an image takes three steps in The Gimp... optimizing it for less data size on the web is very easy also...

Downloading Gimp just to resize pictures is pretty silly. While it may take three steps to change the size, FastStone can do it in one (in a multitude of ways), and I'm assuming so can Irfranview.
