Thread in Other Deleted

There was a long thread entitled something like "Do Christians Believe the Earth Is 4,000 Years Old?" that seems to have been deleted. Can anyone confirm this?

Edited out the incorrect OP name

It was started by Namrufmot, and yes it is gone.

Well, that sucks. I know this question has been asked many times, but why is one person still allowed to delete a 20-page thread with a lot of good discussion? Is there any way the thread could be (ahem) resurrected?

Thanks, I'm going to edit that part of my post out.

Prove to me that this thread existed. I deny it!

Take that, heathen!

And they say there is no proof

So I guess there's no chance of getting this thread undeleted?

Graftenberg 02-17-07 07:14 PM

Found it listed with board tracker here and it does appear to be gone.

I'm still bummed that huge Buffy thread is gone. Was there no chance to save that and archive it? That was a great thread.

I have said time and again I think it's lame that OP's get to do this.

Bushdog 02-21-07 07:35 AM

We really do need to rethink this policy. I think there needs to be some mechanism -- a time limit (2 hours?) or a length limit (1 page?) that after which the thread gets locked down and the OP loses the ability to delete it. That would take care of 90% of the legit thread deletions (OP has a typo in the title, OP quickly realizes post is moronic, etc...).

If I remember correctly, the justification for keeping this option active was that it's an all or nothing option- there's no technical way to do this.

If that's still true, perhaps we need a forum rule about this. Perhaps something like once a thread gets a certain number of posts, it's against the rules to delete it.

Numanoid 02-21-07 01:14 PM

I can see the n00bs doing it, but it's pretty inexcusable for a DVD Talk reviewer to pull a stunt like this. Why the hell did he delete it, anyway?

Chinese New Year was this week, adding a year. The idea of the Earth being 4,001 years old just seemed silly, even to Christians.

It's a one button fix in vBulletin to stop allowing members to delete their own theads. They should need to contact a Mod to do it.

I think that no thread should be deleted, but just closed and possibly moved to a closed thread forum.
