Attack is ----- Solved
FYI. If the site is running poorly it's becuase we are under attack... again.
|
I haven't been having any problems today, though I noticed search was disabled on some forums; is that because of the attack? Also, any closer to finding out who's behind this?
|
We are at a total loss. Hosting provider has said he has no idea what to do, it's pretty grim. Anyone who knows anything about dDos's let me know via email. Can't convey how awful this is.
Why the heck would anyone want to attack DVD Talk? |
can't you track down the computer that's attacking the site and inform its isp to cut it off?
when a dos attacked happened on another forum. I read later that it happened because the server was totally hijacked and the forum staff had to change host location and rebuild the forum database. i'd check with justins for advice. I'm sure he'd be happy to consult ya - for a fair price. :) |
generally, a ddos isnt sent from 'a computer'
it is launched from many many computers running zombie processes.. and these computers are typically ones that are infected on college campuses, unprotected companies, and high speed users machines.. and the bad thing is that any little script kiddie can learn how to do it without much effort |

update. Looks like it might NOT be an attack.
Our feed is on my.yahoo.com and it looks like they are loading an image from our server on that page which is killing our site. More soon. |
Stupid yahoo.

I anxiously await closure.
So you're saying currently might not be an attack but the first time was? |
I blame Al Gore. He invented the internet, and now it is fighitng back.
Seriously though....my understanding with DoS attacks is that they may be propogated across IPs, but you should be able to block the IPs unless they constantly refresh. Typically if it refreshes it'd still be from a block of IPs from said hosting service. I'm not sure waht long term solutions would be, but short term would be to deny the blocks of IPs that are bombarding the site. -p |

A little bird told me you should be looking for the culprit in nearby dumpsters.

Ah, yet another reason why anything "Yahoo" is a piece of shit.
|
I remember a time when Yahoo was the golden child of the Internet and poised to take over the world, much like Google now. How times change.

I don't know if I could handle this site going down :(

So, it's a hotlink issue from Yahoo!?

I didn't even know Yahoo had that much traffic these days.
Hell, I didn't know Yahoo was still around. I haven't visited it in probably five years, and even then it seemed like a ghost town. I expected tumbleweeds to drift across my screen. |
