Constant Thread Title Changing in Other Forum

Every now and then, a mod creatively changes a thread title, and it is often funny. Today, however, someone has taken it upon themselves to change several thread titles over and over and over again, and NEVER to something funny (which would be the whole point in changing it, yes?) I normally don't mind such pointless shenanigans, but I'm on edge after the recent DOS attack and a spike in workload here at my office, and the all too frequent title edits make it difficult to follow the threads I'm interested in, at least in a non-subscription/casual manner.

I'm not even asking the perpetrator to stop (like my plea would matter), I'm just venting.

Do you have examples of the threads and what their titles were changed from/to?

AGuyNamedMike 02-18-06 12:13 PM

off the top of my head, the one's I remember are:

Bill Geiger's relationship thread
Vandelay Industries' little happiness thread
shifrbv's local gun club thread
damn_skippy's parent's thread
kvrdave's names for a white boy thread
msdmoney's pole, car, insurance thread

It appeared that whoever was doing it was simply changing the titles' wording, but keeping the meaning similar. There was no comedy value in it, sadly, and all it really accomplished was minor annoyance for me when scanning the thread titles to check on things. I probably wouldn't even have mentioned it if I hadn't had a rough week. No big woop, but you might check the logs to make sure it was an authorized person doing the edits.

I see no edit's on three of the threads...I didn't look any further....

Gallant Pig 02-18-06 08:32 PM

I believe "So...." was added to the relationship one, but I could be wrong.

My thread looks no different

As far as I can tell you are the only person who noticed those thread titles changes and no trail of moderator edits can be found.

It's possible this was done at the database level so I'll ask about that.

Either:

1) Someone's editing these titles with MySQL queries directly, perhaps through the admincp or some other web interface

2) Someone's cleaning behind themselves by deleting from the admin log

3) These thread titles weren't actually altered

If someone's changing the threads through MySQL, they're also updating the post table since the thread title and the first post title are the same.

No problem. As I said, I wouldn't even have mentioned it if I hadn't also had a rough week. If I notice it happening again, I'll take screenshots. Thanks for checking it out!

Mike - Bill is saying his thread wasn't even changed at all. Was it changed back to its original title before the name change?

AGuyNamedMike 02-20-06 06:28 AM

The title changes all happened on Friday during the business day (eastern time). As far as I can tell, as of Saturday morning, all of the titles were changed back to the original.

Was I imagining things? I doubt it, I am not prone to such behavior.
