Is there an issue with quoting large articles?

If I paste a newspaper article within QUOTE tags, the software gives me an error that I need to type at least 3 characters. It never used to do that before. Now it seems everyone is just pasting articles in without quote tags.

It is necessary for you to post at least 3 characters of your own text. The quoted text doesn't get counted into that requirement.

Since it's generally annoying when people post articles without adding any of their own discussion along with it this is a helpful reminder, although 3 characters isn't really much of a discussion.

You can get around it putting in dummy white text.

X always cracks me up...

And to be clear, this has nothing to do with the length of the quoted text, right? I mean, it can be a one-line article.

Define "before". It's done this for a <i>long</i> time. I find it annoying when posting picture responses, which I've heard are worth like 10 words or something.

Unless those three characters happen to be a Priest, a Rabbi and a Polish guy.

I'm assuming the comment goes for all threads, not just the one that Bandoman posted in. Apologies if I am mistaken.

The Internet is serious business.

A thread raising an alert to the site being down is somewhat different than one discussing the number of typed characters needed to create a post.

Since any deviation from absolutes seems to cause problems for some people and the question is answered I'll close this thread too.
