Search
Any idea when it will be back online?
Searching has been disabled. |
I second that...never seen that before...
|
It's disabled during peak usage periods to help with the forum slowdowns.
See the slowness thread for Geoff's post on this. |
Search seems to be a huge bottleneck with the site. We're working on better solutions for search. In the near term, when load goes through the roof, search will be disabled for that short period of time.

did a huge update to search. Hopefully it'll be better now.
Let me know if you seen any improvement or if it's worse |
Will it ever be improved upon? Basically, will we ever be able to search using three words? How about a smarter engine (or whatever) it just seems like it never works properly/effectively with reviews and of course threads.

Yes. You should now be able to use bolean search terms. Also
Allowed modifiers + are ,-, * and " All modifiers except * should be used only once for one word (in the beginning and without space). * it should be used at the end of a word. For example: windows unix -> will find messages containing at least one these words. +windows +unix -> will find messages with both this words. windows* -> will find "windows", "windowss", "windowssauce" or "windowst". *indows will NOT find "windows" "some words" -> will find "some words of wisdom", but will not find "some extra words". |

It's mainly with vague or short movie titles, basically what would happen is that you would have to go through a page or two with the word you were searching on (that appeared in random spots in other titles) before finding your selection. But the good news is that I just did a search for crash, irreversible, and a few others and had no problems. A good example would be to search for the "the ring" (best I can come up with for now) but again, even when omitting "the" and just using "ring" you still get the same result.....which is a good thing. |
This is a peak time? Can't use it right now.
