dvdtalk.com blocked by content filter
I walk into work today and suddenly, www.dvdtalk.com is blocked by our content filter under General Pornography.
Our filter is 8e6 Technologies. www.8e6.com I could submit it for review to [email protected], but I have gotten in trouble before for questioning site blocking. I thought that the DVD talk owners would like to discuss it with these people. If not, oh well, I'll have to read it from home... Thanks! |
Does the problem become that the adult forum (with adult ads) is under the same domain? I mean, they can't block that one subforum, no?
|
Go ahead and send it in for review to be unblocked.
|
EDIT: made a proper thread in the other talk forum about this. post there.

You have a lot of adult/pornographic content at dvd talk, i personally dont like it. Monitor your kids' internet use. That's infinitely more effective than trying to police the world wide web. |
<s>Well, they weren't saying to change it, just that they didn't like it!</s>
Well, I take it back. They DO want it changed. :) Guess I'll move my post to that new soon-to-be-moved-to-the-feedback-forum thread that Hi-mom just started.... |
Just thought I'd share this email chain that I had with someone at 8e6 a few weeks ago. My company is now blocking DVDTalk as well. Actually having to do work now.
ME The following website has been blocked:www.dvdtalk.com This website contains a forum for discussion of DVDs, as well many other entertainment areas (TV, Deals,Movies, Music, etc). This forum is moderated and requires all adult-related material to be discussed in their adult forum. Thus, all objectional material is limited to one small section of the site. While this section of their site should be blocked, the overall site of www.dvdtalk.com should not. Please correct the blocking to reflect only the objectionable material, and not to the entire website. Thanks. We are unable to remove the site from our Pornography library because it uses a string reference to retrieve the content. String references change causing an under block within the site. I suggest contacting your ISP and asking them to remove the site locally if they feel it's appropriate as 8e6 Technologies cannot change the settings. The addition was a customer request on 8/16/2005. That probably explains why it has just become a recent problem. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Sincerely, Jennifer N. 8e6 Technologies |
And to whoever was spending too much time in the Adult forum around 8/16 while at work - shame, shame, shame.

I'm having a similar issue when accessing the forum from the main page link. The security system has an issue with the forum part of the forum.dvdtalk.com, when accessing the forum where the link is index.xxxx it works fine. Is there a way to change this so that it doesn't try to access the forum via the forum.dvdtalk.com link?

I'm blocked here at work to TV TAlk of all places, adult talk is no problem but something in tv talk is setting off the filter.

or you could use forum.dvdtalk.com and this thread would show up as http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?p=6435960 (this is new, as it's load balancing between two computers) |
The latter link works for me now at work! Yay!
|
Well, looks like my job's computer geeks decided to block the Reviews Index here too. I can go into the Adult Forum without difficulty. But trying to read a review causes the whole "Warning! Inappropriate! You will be terminated! Turn back now!" page to appear.

Our content filter blocks all of DVD Talk. It must be on some master list because our network guy just gets some mammoth public domain list and applies it.
Good thing I work in IT where I have my ways. :) I wonder if the site gets more revenue from the eyes on their porno crap or lose more revenue from the eyes they lose via content filters. I suppose the latter. |
