Or give everyone avatars with no annoyance restrictions and give Platinum members the ability to turn them off. That would make me pay. Or leave.

No public avatars. I don't mind there only being a few in circulation at the mods' discretion.

Works for me.

Seriously, where does one "get" an avatar anyway? Are they just like any other image, hosted somewhere on the web?

Oh, and while the 20th Century membership reqirement is a good idea, might I also make a suggestion that there ALSO be a post requirement, like 5000 or something. Don't want to reward the long-time lurkers, just the "regulars".

Uh, I've been here practically everyday since I registered back in '99 and only have around 3300 posts...does that make me a lurker? Huh!? You're making it sound like it's some snoody country club we're trying to get in to. Just because I'm not a huge <strike>padder</strike> err...poster doesn't mean I'm not a "regular" or any less of a member here.

Whoa, sorrry. I didn't mean to offend. I just like round numbers : 5 years, 5000 posts. It's like 3000 hits or 500 home runs. All I was saying is that if we were going to have some sort of a reward for the longtime members, we should have another requiement that they were frequent contributors too. And besides, how does one get to be a "DVD Talk Legend"? By posting a hell of a lot of times.

I would think 5 years of membership with at least 100 posts.

Of course I am still looking forward to a premium membership and could wait till then. I am willing to pay to annoy my fellow members with an Avatar

So, when will avatars for the posters with the longest members be implemented?

I've got to agree with the masses... if you've been here over 5 years, you deserve an avatar! Dispite post count.

So when do I get mine?

It was a happy day when I found this in my User CP:

Visible Post Elements:

Show Signatures - nope
Show Avatars - nope
Avatars really are annoying. But as long as I can turn them off, it might be nice for the oldies at the site.

I like the Dec 1999 idea. Keeps the padders out.
