Auto Image Resizing feature?

We might benefit from some kind of automatic re-sizing program for those who post large pics. There should be a default of 640x480, and you would just click on the photo to see the original size. Large images, including several images within a post, create havoc on a thread, and I often just avoid the topic altogether because images keep on moving the post around.

Just an idea. :)

I think most image uploading sites offer a thumbnail version of a pic, if it is large enough. Maybe it is enough to let people know that when in doubt over breaking tables, they should post the thumbnail, to help this problem.

There are only two ways that would work:

1) The images would need to be uploaded directly to the DVD Talk server.

- or -

2) The server, in the process of parsing the page, would need to remotely determine the size of each image. Especially in threads with a good number of images, this would add a lot of latency if done on the fly. This could be done as a pre-processing thing when submitting a post, but again, latency is a concern, and it would still be up to someone to write a vBulletin hack to accommodate.
