I don't like it up there

Why do people insist on putting things on the top shelf

Bring the forum select combo box back down!

Copenhagen 08-09-04 03:15 PM

Is it a bit out of your reach.

B.A. 08-09-04 03:18 PM

I liked it better on the left side, too. I was just freaking out (in a very minor way) because I thought that something was wrong w/ my computer at work when I couldn't find it. :)

Blake 08-09-04 03:20 PM

I don't really care where it is, but in Firefox, it isn't aligned properly and thus creates the dreaded horizontal scroll bar for me.

I don't want to dig in to the HTML now to figure out where the problem is, but this scroll bar is annoying on every page ;)

Josh H 08-09-04 03:20 PM

Yeah hard to get to. I didn't even notice it was up there until I read this thread. I just noticed it was missing, not that it had been moved.

Maybe Geoff just wants people to have to scroll back through the ads to get to it to try to increase ad clicks.

Or maybe he's just playing around and it's not permanent.

Another vote for left side.

cdollaz 08-09-04 03:56 PM

I liked it how it was as well.

GeoffK 08-09-04 04:04 PM

Thanks for the feedback.

I've fixed the issue with firefox, so you shouldn't get the dreadded horizontal scroll bar.

I've moved the forum select back to the left (sorry about moving it on you guys) and centered the other items so they're better positioned.

The move is literally only 80 or so pixels higher, so those of you in a panic because it's been moved 'up' it's really not all that much up. And YES it's up there so that you have to pass by the banner to get to it.

I made the change to reduce the amount of space from the top of the page to the forum as well as clean it up a bit.

I welcome your comments/issues/bug reports...

vaporware 08-09-04 04:08 PM

This reminded me that I need to change my underwear.

vaporware 08-09-04 04:15 PM

In all seriousness, for some reason the banner that has the shark causes my mouse cursor to disappear when I move it to the upper left corner. I can't scroll or select. It seems to be only that banner doing it.

Da Thrilla 08-09-04 04:20 PM

I kinda like it up there.

Fok 08-09-04 04:48 PM

Glad its moved back to the left.

GeoffK 08-09-04 04:54 PM

Just fixed issues with the search. You should now be able to do a simple forum search from that top search box :)

Up there, there is so much room,
Where babies burp and flowers bloom.
Everyone dreams; I can dream too.
Up there, up where the background's ocean blue.
I could be safe and live without a care ...
Live without a care ...
Now that the dropdown's up theeeeeeeeere!

This isn't going to get anyone to click on the banners more.

As if we would anyway!!!!! Oh shit, was that out loud?

Numanoid 08-09-04 06:10 PM

I like it up top. Much cleaner.

Kal-El 08-09-04 06:18 PM

I knew it wasn't just me. Another vote for the old layout.

B.A. 08-09-04 08:03 PM

Thanks for putting it back on the left side, even though it is still up top.

Now what are you doing to w/ all of the empty space on each side of the "New Reviews" and "Coming Soon" ads?

Jackskeleton 08-09-04 08:08 PM

Freaked me out when It kept moving. :o

Hey, I just noticed that the "review search" works with Firefox from any page now. Thanks for the fix on that too! :)

Yeah, this was a HUGE issue, so I had to re-write the search code from scratch :)

Preacher 08-09-04 11:29 PM

Thanks Geoff. Much easier.

Brain Stew 08-10-04 08:54 AM

Wow, I didn't even know there was a drop-down list in the forums, I thought it was only on the front page ! I usually just use the links separated by ">".

I already did it once by accident :o

Of course We older members sometimes click too early :o

Numanoid 08-10-04 10:14 PM

What's going on? In Adult, Video Game and International Forums, the dropdown box is back where it was instead of at the top. Anyone else experiencing this, or should I stop drinking all this cough syrup?

they're each on their own template. Was waiting for all the bugs to get ironed out before I upgraded them.

I used to have that problem.

Try thinking about baseball. It helps.
