new releases list
I wish the DVD Talk "New Releases" list included more releases of older films. For example, I think that now the list does not include "Around the World in 80 Days" (in a two disc set from Warners of a restoration that has been much awaited for many years) on May 18, or the Ingrid Bergman-Victor Fleming "Joan of Arc" (flawed but interesting) that will be released by Image on the same date. It's as if whoever compiles the list is a little deaf to which old titles are substantial and interesting. I liked using the DVD Talk list to learn about new releases until I realized how many of the films I most care about are never included.

Nope, I like it just the way it is and check it daily for the quickest info on all the recent theatrical release DVD dates. That's what the list is for, and is why things like The Star Wars Trilogy aren't listed. And who's to judge what older titles are worthy of being listed? Why not every Anime release? I go to DVDEmpire's New Addition section and every single day there are about 100 new titles added for preorder, ranging from new theatrical releases to $5 semi-porn titles. Who's gonna maintain that? Mao does an excellent job with his list.

Agreed. It's hard to maintain a list of every single release. Perhaps a link to a website that does include every single release is a better suggesstion.

No. I like just having new theatrical releases in the list. It's easier to skim through, especially for me given I'm not into classic movies and have most of the 80's-90's flicks I want.

We try to include all the major releases including 'classic films'. With literally hundreds of new titles listed for pre-order every week including reprices and re-releases it's a lot of titles to sift through, so sometimes we'll miss one of the notable classics.
If there's a title you think should be included that isn't just drop me an email :) I added both of the ones from the first post :) |

My suggestion (which requires a bit more effort, but gives you the benefit of not missing anything) is to use this site instead: http://www.hometheaterinfo.com/dvdlist.htm This will give you a complete list of every DVD released or announced. I download into Excel and then you can sort by genre, price, year, whatever to eliminate films that you may not care about. (Just make sure to come back and use Geoff's links to order them!) ;) |

Originally posted by matome OK, I think I'm missing something here. :) Are we talking about Mao's new release list in the main DVD Talk forum? If not, I should be ashamed since I've been here almost five years and don't know of any other one. :D |
Oops   That's what I get for exclusively using the drop down forum boxes. Ok, in that case I still think it's a pretty dauntless task to put every title in there, but it should try to be as encompassing as possible. I was just sick of seeing posts like "How come Star Wars or Aladdin aren't listed here??????" in Mao's thread.
