can we keep the Passion threads down in movie talk?

or make a seperate forum for the next week or so. there are 12 now out of 35 threads.

devilshalo 02-26-04 09:23 AM

I concur with the seperate forum.

Groucho 02-26-04 09:27 AM

It was only a matter of time before you guys surfaced. Shame on you for trying to keep Mel's movie down, and for trying to censor Jesus's message of love!

Can we just give Groucho his own subforum also?

Please?

SunMonkey 02-26-04 10:28 AM

I was just coming here to suggest the same thing. Up to 13 of 35 threads on the first page for The Passion.

DonnachaOne 02-26-04 10:38 AM

Welcome to PassionTalk!

I don't think we need a subforum, though. A lot of them are saying the same thing, really... a merge would be adequate.

Goldberg74 02-26-04 10:44 AM

Release Barabas!!!!

Whoops... wrong forum.

I agree with the SubForum... (for both The Passion and Groucho!)

Your statements toward Antigrouchites are biased, racist and queer.

Remember, Groucho gave his life for you so that you could sneer and chuckle condescendingly over your keyboards.

Amen! too much passions talk.

chrisih8u 02-26-04 01:24 PM

3 threads have been locked. That should clear it up somewhat.

Static Cling 02-26-04 01:32 PM

Once the locked threads fall off the front page, it should be a little less cluttered in there. Some of the threads that are still open probably shouldn't have their own threads, but since they're already so long, it's hard to close them or merge them.

Will a moderator please answer why there is no sub-forum on this movie? There are PLENTY of varied topics revolving around this movie that deserve their own thread. Many of these have nothing to do with whether or not you thought the film was good. I don't think people care to sift through hundreds of posts in ONE thread to make sure they aren't repeating something someone else said or to discuss one of the different aspects of the film not related to an overall review.

Here are a few obvious ones:

Review on the movie itself
Is the film anti-semitic?
Is Mel anti-semitic?
How did the movie affect your faith?
Will it get an oscar nod?
How much will it make?
Will it drop like a rock or get repeat business?
Has the press been fair to the film?
Are the reviewers biased against it?
Is it getting too much hype?

and on and on and on. It has at least as many potential topics as the Matrix films and had a bigger opening day gross than 2 of them. It also obviously has lots of interest by forum members. What more does it take???!!!

Static Cling 02-26-04 04:44 PM

This thread was posted less than twelve hours ago, and the movie opened about twenty-four hours ago. If Geoff thinks a subforum is necessary, then he'll open one... just give it time. As of today, many of the active discussion threads were redundant.

moocher 02-26-04 06:16 PM

There are threads popping up all over the place and I happen to disagree that many are redundant. Here are the titles of the locked threads in the movie forum:

Any chance for a sequel? (Passion of Christ)
I think there should be a Passion of the Christ sub-forum..
The Passion makes est. $26 million.
Poll: a PASSION sub-forum needed?
The Passion - The Curiosity Factor
QUICK, what are you day one and week 1 box office predictions for the Passion?
The Passion - Let's Talk Profit!
THE PASSION claims its first victim

I don't see much redundancy there. Some of the others that also aren't redundant were not locked simply because they were "too long". I thought the reason they were locked was that the desire was to keep the thread # down. The problem is that this film is such a phenominon that there is no way to keep it to one or two threads. I doubt we will see another independent foreign language film create this kind of spectacle in our lifetime.

I understand the film just opened but it has been being discussed for quite some time now. Only now with the opening, it seems to have exploded.

Better open a subforum soon or you will probably be accused of being anti-something ;)...

strife 02-26-04 09:56 PM

Give static credit for keeping it undercontrol. I read through some of the closed threads. The titles were misleading they were closed for the reasons he stated.

I'm actually surprised noone been suspended for threadcrapping yet.

The Antipodean 02-26-04 10:40 PM

You must've missed WHite Knight's post in the Passion Oscars thread...

Okay, we'll go one by one.

Any chance for a sequel? (Passion of Christ)
A joke thread. Ha ha, but the page was already clogged with threads about this movie.

I think there should be a Passion of the Christ sub-forum..
Should've been in Feedback, but this very thread covers the same ground.

The Passion makes est. $26 million.
Did you even read this thread and my reason for closing it? The same guy had started a thread about how much money the movie was going to make.

Poll: a PASSION sub-forum needed?
Again, should've been in Feedback.

The Passion - The Curiosity Factor
Another money thread.

QUICK, what are you day one and week 1 box office predictions for the Passion?
Another money thread. And come on... a thread about how much money we guess the movie is going to make after one day and one week? I don't see a really deep discussion coming out of that.

The Passion - Let's Talk Profit!
Hey, another money thread!

THE PASSION claims its first victim
Duplicate of a thread in Other.

B.A. 02-27-04 11:11 AM

Static - It was getting ridiculous and I think you have done a great job keeping the threads under control. Thank You.
