Untagged Spoilers - suspension?

Being that Survivor was ruined for many members this morning, could we ensure propoer spoiler tag usage with a threat of a minor suspension?

A warning would probably be appropriate for a first offense. Repeated offenses could then be met with suspensions and eventually being banned. But this kind of thing rarely happens (the first time anyway) for maliscious reasons, so any kind of a suspension for a first offense seems a little extreme to me.

I say a Warning for the first offence, and Suspension untill the end of the season for the Second. If they do it again next season then they can be Banned.

Warnings are enough IMO.

I get annoyed when people whine about spoilers. I can understand if it's a thread talking about how much money a movie made or something not related directly the the film.

However, if I don't want a movie/show spoiled, I don't click on threads discussing it until after I've seen it. Problem solved. If it's something I'm on the fence about seeing, then I don't mind some spoilers in reviews as I want to find out what it's about to decide to see it. Otherwise, I just steer clear of movie/show threads until after viewing them.

Josh,

The thread in question was about an episode of "Survivor." The rules of the TV forum are that you don't discuss future episodes without tags. Period. That includes the promo for next week.

This is a lot different than somebody reading a thread called The Crying Game: Who saw the twist coming? and complaining about untagged spoilers.

Except this was a spoiler about the final three remaining Survivors, rather than just a spoiler about the most recent show.

I think a suspension until the end of a season is pretty extreme.

People make mistakes. So a warning is appropriate.

However, if the same person continues to ignore the warning and post spoilers, it's no longer a mistake. Time to make with the suspensions, hellfire, and pointy sticks.

What about until the end of the season for just the TV forum?

Personally, I don't think banning people for spoiling shows like was done with the last two Survivor seasons is too extreme. I believe people do it on purpose and then claim ignorance.

Does that mean we get paddled with fish?

see what I did there?

I agree, I understand seeing spoilers in some threads, but with some of them it should be enforced a little.

I think the rules need to be made clear about not discussing the next week's promos because a lot of people seem to be ignoring it lately in the TV forum. And I don't think saying something to the effect of "next week should be interesting because blank is coming back and we haven't seen them in a while" is covering your spoiler when only the name is blanked out.

and also there should be a rule where only things that haven't aired should be spoiler tagged. for instance, if someone gets whacked in the sopranos, we should be able to freely discuss it without having tags, once the episode has aired. it gets annoying once everything is tagged, its hard to tell whats going to be on next weeks episode and whats about this weeks.

We've been through this before many times and even have a sticky detailing these suggestions. Yet, for some unfathomable reason, people refuse to abide by these policies, even longtime members who should know better. I'm not sure if it'll ever stop. I <i>can</i> say, however, that it's infinitely better than it was 2 years ago, when you had to raise holy Hell to get people to stop it.

I like what I just saw Static do in the TV Forum, he changed the posters title to "I Dont Use Spoiler Tags".
Make them wear that right under their username for a week or two.
