Warning screen before entering the Mature forum? Is this possible?

As it currently stands, the Mature forum resides between "Other" and "Sports" in the drop down menu underneath the DVDTalk logo.

Only problem here is that your mouse slipping a few pixels where it shouldn't be and suddenly you're in the Mature forum when you probably meant to be in the Other forum or Sports forum.

This creates a problem for those of us browsing on our lunch breaks (or other times) at work, given the porn advertisements that permanently reside at the top of this forum.

Is there any way an intermediate click-through screen can be installed, or at the very least, have the Mature forum moved to the bottom of the list in that dropdown menu? I know I'm not the only one who has accidentally been in the mature forum at an inopportune time.

kthxbye,
ES

This from someone whose user title is 'Gonads and Strife'... : )
Just kidding--You make a good point, that has happened to me too. Especially with the ubiquitous requests for 'Pics?' in those threads, while I enjoy some of them, I have to plan to visit there.

Bandoman 01-30-04 01:24 PM

Yeah, I've "accidentally" ended up with nude pics of hairy chicks on my screen too.

AndyCapps 01-30-04 01:45 PM

Something like that would be nice. When someone reports a post, we don't have a way to know what forum it is in. It sucks when you click a link to something like "$1 DVDs" that could be anywhere, and you end up in Mature.

MJKTool 01-30-04 02:20 PM

I've had this problem as well. Almost been caught a couple times, but I was quick with my mouse.

Bandoman 01-30-04 02:21 PM

"alt-tab" is your workplace friend. :)

I hate how threads are moved into mature... I hit refresh and all of a sudden there are naked chicks on my screen at work.

or even one thats sitting in other and says MOVED next to it..
you never really know where your going to end up when you click that link ;)

kvrdave 01-30-04 05:17 PM

I have ended up up Mature with the thread moves on occasion too. And suddenly I see an ad for a rubberized girlfriend...or at least part of her anyway. Must be the economy model.

Groucho 01-30-04 05:20 PM

I hate the placement of the forum for a completely different reason. Who among us hasn't found a quiet moment, unzipped, thought they clicked on "Mature," and ended up in one of twikoff's Smallball threads?

Venusian 01-30-04 06:45 PM

i had the same problem with the mouse slip and ending up in mature at work.

i think a solution would be a warning screen that you could click saying you are 18 and it would add a cookie so it wouldnt bother regular mature surfers.

If something is moved from Other to Mature it no longer shows up in Other to click on.

uNCSUcks 01-31-04 09:18 AM

Maybe for the scream, it could be a really loud "Hey everyone I'm looking at porn!"

DarthVong 01-31-04 10:38 AM

I vote for the Howard Dean scream.

Josh H 01-31-04 12:31 PM

I'd love a warning screen as well. I've accidently loaded the mature forum at work several times as a result of trying to scroll down a page with my scroll wheel, only to have the forum select box still active.

xmiyux 02-01-04 12:27 PM

I have done the same thing as Josh and would love to have a warning screen as well.

really????

I didnt know that

well in that case.. I dont have any problem.. because i figure the odds of a thread being moved while Im actually in it, isnt all that great

I asked for this about a year ago. (a year and half ago)

Add me to that list as well.

LurkerDan 02-02-04 12:00 PM

Damn, I hate to say it, but El Scorcho is right, and I agree with him 100%... -eek-

Yes, but they chose to ignore you.

With me, they'll ignore me but I'll get summarily insulted and have my thread title changed. ;)

It's true. I know because I've had one or two threads moved there in the past and I was looking at Other and thought "where the hell did my thread go?".

Blake 02-03-04 12:55 AM

With the forum software, it's just not easy to add a little warning screen.

What could be done though, is Geoff could create a "redirect" forum that would take you to, say:

http://www.dvdtalk.com/warning.html

And then, you could either click to continue or wait 5 seconds and be forwarded to the "actual" mature talk forum - which I belive can be hidden and only accessible through a link (from the warning page).

It's not an easy solution, but it might work.

El Scorcho 02-03-04 06:12 PM

Still waiting for big boss comments. A 5 second redirect would work wonders and wouldn't be too much of an obstacle for people that are trying to go to the mature forum.
