Question about forum rules/ Mr. Skin Post
 

Just a quick question regarding certain forum policies and such that I have been wondering about since happening upon the Mr. Skin link in the Mature Forum.

Now, mods lock threads pertaining to copyrite, bootlegs, Kazza etc. etc. etc. yet the Mr. Skin post which offers a free passwords to a popular pay sight has been allowed to remain open.

Now, I enjoy free porn about as much as the other guy (well except that one guy...you know who he is!), but shouldn't this have been locked and the passwords deleated as well? I mean, is this not, in some small way, a form of hacking? Is that password actually stolen from somebody else? Not to mention all the added congestion Mr. Skin himself gets on his site.

I've seen stuff like this in chat rooms and the like and I would hate for the mature forum to become a password trading haven. Or is this only one instance?

Did you do a Report this Post to a Moderator on that thread?

Did you try emailing a mod or admin?


Unlike most people who enjoy it very much, mods don't typically like to be taken to task in front of the whole world.


My impression was that this was a publicly available, limited-time password that was being circulated by and for the promotion of that site.

A post in that thread stated where the login came from.

"This was given away as a "Christmas" present on 101 WRIF's Drew and Mike show. (morning radio show in Detroit)"

That sounds like the username and password were public and not at all like hacking.

Is the purpose of this forum then to just tap each other on the shoulder and say: "Hey, good job"?

I am offering my feedback and thoughts on the forum. I am not, as you say, trying to take the mods to task in front of the whole world (or, err, in this case, the DVDtalk world). I was not only seeking the input of mods but that of other posters here as well.

No, but if the intention is to report a questionable post, why not use the functionality that exists for that express purpose? I'd agree that this sort of discussion should be started if your report went unanswered in a reasonable period of time, but this thread seems less to me about overall policy and more about a single, specific post.

The original poster is from Lansing, Michigan, I believe, and perhaps the Detroit radio show mentioned is also carried in Lansing. If you're referring back to the DJs themselves, perhaps the account was created as a promotion by MrSkin.com for that radio show and wound up being widely distributed. I don't think there's necessarily anything underhanded going on here. I'm not sure if you're asking that as a rhetorical question since I don't think X has any intimate knowledge about what's spoken on Detroit radio. You could e-mail them directly and ask since they'd give you a better response than a moderator of an unaffiliated forum on the opposite end of the country. Their website is http://www.wrif.com/

I should hope not. However, I don't think the distribution of a promotional username/password <small>(working under the assumption that's what this is)</small> is substantially different than posting publicly-available coupons for online retailers or posting Sunday newspaper sales circulars on the WWW.

I was listening when they announced this. They were interviewing Mr. Skin like they do frequently, and he gave them the go ahead to give out their username and password to the listeners as a Christmas gift.

It was supposed to be good for three days, but I think it spread around the 'net so fast that it was pulled a day early.
