So how many lines ARE allowed in a sig?

I've seen them getting bigger and bigger, and now there's someone who's up to 11! I have many more points to add to my gay agenda, but 3 seems like it's enough, but the sigs are getting out of hand, IMHO.

Gay agenda?

Unless it's changed just recently, there is a 5 line limit in sigs.

I think any line in a sig that mentions "EyeToy" should be considered to be three lines.

AndyCapps 11-06-03 10:24 AM

5 lines at 1024x768 resolution. Due to current economic conditions, the full-time staffer whose main job function was to monitor sig lengths had to be let go. :(

If you aren't kidding about someone having 11 lines, let us know who it is.

Did you reflect for even a moment about what you are doing?

What exactly should I be reflecting on?

*cartman fondly remembers poking fun at linking DVD lists in sigs by placing his entire DVD list in his sig for posting in 1 thread, then forgetting it was there and getting an email from Geoff that JH had complained about my sig length*

This.

The mods depend on stuff like that to enforce the rules and keep the site running as planned. They can't catch everything.

Long sigs are annoying and waste bandwith.

bfrank 11-06-03 03:08 PM

:o

I thought it was four -eek-

Signature lengths greater than five (5) lines. As a courtesy to fellow users utilizing low screen resolutions and/or slow Internet connection speeds, those users who append signatures to their forum posts must keep the total length of their signature to a length of five lines or less.

LOL that's ok! It's a busy week and I don't have that much free time to devote to the gay agenda anyways! lol

twikoff 11-06-03 09:22 PM

thats 5 lines including spaces!

mikehunt 11-06-03 09:43 PM

I find it odd that someone with 7 lines is posting in this thread
and for the record, long sigs don't bother me and I'm on dialup. I always have multiple windows open so if one takes longer to load I have other stuff to read

For my 3 1/2 years here, except for a few weeks, my sig has always been 3 words long. And it will be again soon. No links or nothin.

Politely I suggest you should consider a higher resolution on your computer. It's 4 lines long on mine.

Immortal Zeus, surprisingly, is still only five, with the Top Gun 2 line...

Wy not use [ size = 1] text [ / size ] to minimize the font size? Remove the spaces, or 'quote' my thread to see how I did this. I find it saves a lot of space with the long quotes.

Looks like someone else uses 800x600 resolution. My nearly 8 year old 15" monitor at home suffers this problem. So I can't do sig length judging at home. With the 1600x1200 on my laptop, nearly all sigs look short.

mikehunt 11-07-03 11:04 AM

hmm, I'm using 1024x768 on my monitor
and to clarify, the length of anyone's sig does not matter to me, I jsut thought it was kind of an odd thing to see in a thread about sig length

RandyC 11-07-03 12:34 PM

Preacher's sig is a little over one line on my screen.:)

Is your text size at regular? Also, do you have any search or favorites sections open on your browser?

The 5 lines is at 1024x768, using regular size text, and no other features using up the browser window like a favorites listing or search window.

mikehunt 11-07-03 06:23 PM

only thing I have is the normal address bar, file menu and back button bar on my IE. no other special features. I'm at work now so I can't check text size
wow, didn't realize what was intended as an innocent odd observation would stir up so much debate :)

You know times are bad when they start laying off the people that work for free.

-ohbfrank- you, as a mod should know better than that!

ok, so admittedly, the only reason i know was because someone complained (it was 5 lines on my screen, but more than that on someone elses).

Is the window maximized?

Ultimately, however, it's what the mods/admins see that's the final judgement. :D

Thanks, DonnachaOne. I love fat cake also. :)

NotThatGuy 11-13-03 09:08 AM

I think 5 lines is sufficient. If you need more, make a link, and post to your hearts content. Actually...that is a great idea.

*Runs out of thread to make the worlds longest linked signature*

ahem, nobody reads your sig if it's more than 10 words
